Default "......they pull you back in."

Hey Everyone,
Was Insight-less for 1 year as I thought I needed a truck to tow some stuff and carry 6 people. REALLY missed my insight but my kids & wife couldn't drive a stick so I sold my 2000 silver MT..........now it turns out that I really only tow stuff a couple of times a year
So
Flew to baltimore at 5:30am yesterday and picked up a 2003 cvt blue with 78000 miles and more than a year of warranty left for 6750.00 drove it back to bham and arrived at 12:30am
did 75mph and mashed the pedal all the way home and still averaged a bit better than 55mpg. Got 65mpg on my little 10 mile commute to work. Seems like the cvt's get a bad rap but this is AWESOME after 24 hours.

I do need cruise control though and an armrest is already on its way.

I test drove a leaf as well and while very cool and techy, can't justify the expense for a car with limited range and unproven reliability..

gonna save at least 375 per month in gas, who know how much on insurance as well as my soon to be defunct truck payment.....

WHAT A GREAT DAY!
Marc

I have been seriously considering selling my MT for the CVT .. I get sick of shifting in traffic on my commute. Please keep us posted on your average MPG and driving style.

I average 55mpg with my MT but I drive very fast 65-90 .. when I stay under 65mph I average 65mpg

If you drive that fast, there will probably be little difference between a CVT and a MT, since you're not in lean burn anyway.

But sick of shifting? Unpossible! Will never get tired of rowing my own.

haha .. The car is very fun to drive for pleasure .. but the double clutching for second gear and the constant shifting for power in heavy traffic wears me out.

I want to just set the cruise control and relax on my ride to/from work.

I do admit that when I drive the other cars, it's a pleasure.. the transmission in #3 is really worn out. I don't mind double clutching overall, but it does kinda suck..

This is what my 2 mile commute looks like on the way to work. Max speed is about 30mph.

R-1-2-3-2-N-1-2-3-2-N-1-2-3-4-2-N-1-2-3-4-2-N-1-2-3-2-N(parked).

LOL. That's pretty funny.

Are you logging your shifting, too, Eli (a.k.a., Loggerman)?

Nah... Just went through it in my head.

That'd be interesting though.. Don't give me any ideas!

What does it look like when you use the car with the BetterBattery?

R-1-2-5-N-1-2-5-N-1-2-5-N-1-2-5-N-1-2-5-1(parked)?

We've got hills, so parked is 1st for us. Otherwise we have to go hunting for the car when we come back outside.

I always downshift to 2nd when decelerating, otherwise even the BetterBattery would be empty after a few days! I can keep the battery SoC at 68-78% on my commute this way.

I should try what you describe though, and see if I can maintain charge even with the added assist. There's a pretty fine line between losing a bit of charge every day and maintaining it, which is what I try to do. I use the e-brake when I park, hill or not.

I remember a three year old up the hill from my parent's house climbing into a van and knocking it into gear and the van rolling down the hill and hitting my parents house with the child still in it (nobody hurt).

That's why we use both the gear and the brake - because one can fail.
