Unhappy 2005 IMA warranty

Hello everyone I own a 2005 insight with 109,000 miles on it, a few weeks ago the IMA light came on and the car started running roughly, I took the car to the dealer and they told me I would need a new battery costing $3,300. I took my car back and started researching the internet and found some cheaper alternatives, before I proceed with a replacement I was wondering if anybody has had any luck contacting Honda had them cover a battery that is out of warranty. If I am correct honda extended this warranty to 10 years 150,000 miles on every year except 05 and 06 and since I live in Florida and heat can lower the life span on these batteries I thought I would give it try. Why Honda did not include the extra 2 years regardless of the improvements is beyond me, I mean if I'm lucky I will see 2 or 3 1st generation Insights here in South Florida a year so it's not if they were committing to a ton of warranties. Any feedback would be appreciated, Regards Jerry.

Unfortunately the warranty on 2005 and 2006 Insights is only 8 years/80,000 miles. Why they did this I'm not sure, but it does indeed suck.

People have indeed had luck with Honda helping them out, but usually only when they're only a little past the warranty. At 30k miles over, it may be a hard sell. It really just depends on the CSR you get, it seems...

It's definitely worth pursuing though.

I think the 2005-6 models had the new BCM(?) modules which do a better job of protecting the battery so they didn't extend the warranty.

It can't hurt to ask Honda if they'd help, but I'm doubting they will do anything.

Another option is to grid charge your current pack to see if you can extend its life.

Which IMA code did you get?

If it is just a P1447, you can reset the computer and clear the code and get more mileage out of it.

I'm currently on my 12th P1447 over the past 24K miles and the car still runs fine (albeit with a very small battery capacity).

Thanks for the response, the codes I got from the dealer were P1600 followed by IMA system malfunction and P0700 A/T malfunction, I just disconnected the BCM module and tried to start the car and the 12v battery was to weak so the car did not start, I am charging the battery to see if I can make it to an auto parts to buy a new battery. I am hoping that once I get the car started it will run properly, any suggestions or things I should further check on, thanks again for the help.

You will be surprised what a good 12V battery can do. Your problems might vanish.
Keep us posted.
