Just wanted to say hi to the group! I just bought a 2000 here in the northern VA area, 153k miles, A/C, overall good shape, new IMA pack in 2009, Potenza RE92s, normal internal/external wear and tear all around with everything working, for $4400.
Loving this little car already, and it's nice to see a dedicated owners group online with so much knowledge. I'm not going to be a hypermiler but I am interested in brining the car back to better condition and maximize my MPG by following some of the tips and suggestions you've all outlined here.
First questions!
Is there a preferred online parts store, perhaps one that gives a discount to InsightCentral members?
Is the 0W20 oil easily found and if so, what's the best source? Are most of you running synthetic?
Have you found that JiffyLube knows what they're doing with these cars?
Thanks, Happy New Year to all, and I hope to be contributing soon with some ideas of my own.

Although no specific discount is offered to forum members, many of us use Majestic Honda. There are many other vendors and it depends on the specific part ou are looking for. I will generally search this forum first and see if the part shows up here and go from there.

I just purchased 5 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-20 Advanced Fuel Economy (synthetic) at Mobil 1 0w-20 @ Walmart for $26.62 (now$27.19). While you are at it you can buy some oil filters Mobil 1 M1-108.

The previous owner of my vehicle used Jiffy Lube for 3 oil changes and I could not detect any damage. So I guess it depends. The oil pan is very expensive magnesium-unobtanium; and you don't want some high school kid over tightening or otherwise damaging the oil pan. Most members have purchased a
I am not that mechanically inclined but was able to perform the oil change with little difficulty. I can provide you a copy of the process I used that goes into more detail if you want it.
You will also want to consider a grid charger to keep your battery healthy.
To better acclimate yourself to the car, spend a lot of time just looking through the various posts in the forum.

Reason: fixed link
Dakine, thanks for the tips and links! I guess I'll pass on the fine staff at JiffyLube and do my own oil. I had read about but then forgotten the magnesium issue with the oil pan; no sense in running that risk.
Thanks, Pete! Seems like a very positive group intent on getting the most out of these cars, which is very refreshing. Some of the other forums I've belonged to (NSX Prime, 928 owners club and Mini) weren't always an upbeat bunch, if you know what I mean.
I'll continue to lurk and and search as I start to plow through some of the stuff I want to get done on the car.
As an aside, do you ever get comments that the site is slow? It was tolerable this morning early (before 5am while I was on) but during EST working hours, it's dog slow.
Don
PS, I just saw your signature block... is this hosted in the UK?
PPS, never mind, WHOIS says it's in Ontario, CA. Still awfully slow, though.
I always compare all three, G1 will have free shipping depending on how much you buy. Look up the Honda PN on Majestic first and then do a search on G1 as their web site is not as user friendly.
I went to Jiffy Lube *once* and they stripped the drain bolt AND overfilled the crankcase. I knew better, but was in a hurry and about to drive 1400 miles. I will never take my cars to one again.
