With the i2 its 35mph. When I use to travel through the rural parts of VA in the late evenings I would set the cruse and watch the mpg rack up.

Yeah, I was reading about driving and saw a lot of mention of WOT, then FAS. FASing worked well for me pulsing between 25-45mph, however after a few miles I sucked the IMA pack dry and ended up in a negative recal.

Default data logging OBD stuff

Somewhere in the archives on the laptop lives OBD values where I logged stuff when gathering info for the blanket.
I'll have to look back and see what all I captured beside temperatures.

It could be compared to the daily log book to see FE.
Might help

Sounds great. See you at 2:15 for some great Starbucks coffee!

I'll show you my new OBDIIc&c gauge. You are gonna wish you had a Gen 1

Default engine load data

edit 02/05/2012
Changed link to a Mediafire doc.

Here's a sample of the data that was collected.

The file naming is date 01/27/07 followed by a file sequence for that day.
Looks like time span was set on 1 second increments
The FE for this particular trip in bound work (from home with block heater) commute was 97.5mpg 41.9miles

If it helps

Randall

It is very interesting data. I don't exactly understand the "run" and just exactly what you were trying to prove. Could you elaborate a bit? I guess the O2S11 voltage is a measure of when the engine went into lean burn? What is "Shift11(%).

I'm a bit of a late comer to much of this, but I seem to recall some discussion of someone creating a blanket for the engine to reduce heat loss. Was this your experiment? Is there a thread?

What program did you use to log the data? I assume you made up a special cable to go between the OBD port and the computer serial(?) port.

Very interesting stuff

my first googledoc hope it works
Thank you. I found the blanket experiment stuff by searching on your screen name. I also found lots of other interesting "early" threads.

I guess my problem with IC is that I'm a late comer. I bought my Gen 1 about 10 years after the first intro, apparently in late 1999. So I'm just full of questions that have already been beaten to death by the early owners.

I know you can get impatient with my inability to locate some of the interesting threads, but the problem I'm having is that most "searches" return a haystack of stuff to be sorted through. I haven't had much success narrowing the field by using the advanced search functions. Most times I just get another "haystack," sometimes completely unrelated to the search parameters. I guess I'll eventually figure out how to do effective searches.

I didn't mean to imply that I didn't get results when searching, but 1630 results is not a viable number to deal with. Perhaps the problem is that the archieve is so huge at this point. I don't know

Sorry for snapping at you jime.

This was back before I got ScanGuageII.

The program I used was the Alex Pepper Car-Code.
The software used to be free, but you bought his cable. Don't know about the software of late.
It is able to display a choice of gauges on the laptop in real time.
Had a laptop mount in the passengers floor pan.
It also allows you to dump the collected data to a file each time the system is shutdown. All I had to do was give it a name and it was saved.
Then you had to go back later and and convert it to CSV, IIRC.

Yes the O2S is the Oxygen sensor voltage, and it gives the indication of leanburn.
The Shift value is timing advance.

By "run" you mean, what the heck was he doing?

Early days of Insight wondership. Inquiring minds thing.
Ground work for more stuff.

Speaking of early days, there were no pics back then on IC.
Now that this has changed I should expose the engine blanket.
I'll work on that. Thank you for getting me off my can

Randall

No apology expected or needed. We are just at vastly different timeframes on IC. I only started using it within the last year or so. I really enjoy reading some of your early stuff and that of others
