Default UK: cock-up over tax-dick.

Sorry, 'disc'. No I'm not - it was deliberate.

A 1st-Gen' CVT of my acquaintance, first registered in the UK well after 2001, came with a paid-for tax-disc. (£120, I think.) Hang on, that can't be right. I checked the log-book: they've got the CO2-emissions as 143gm/km. That's not right, either: it's 90gm/km, isn't it? But how to prove it?

I got in touch with Honda UK, to get a Certificate of Compliance. But the on-line form you print, complete and return to them states clearly that it's only for vehicles bound for the UK. Hmm: the car in question was a personal import.

Nevertheless, tax is being paid when it needn't be. How do we put this right?

AF.

Let me know when you figure it out.

I imported my U.S. Insight to Sweden. Because Insights were never sold in Sweden, the Swedish Traffic Administration has no emissions information about my Insight. I was told that they would accept an E.U. Certificate of Compliance to determine emissions, but because my Insight isn't an E.U. model, I cannot get an E.U. Certificate of Compliance. I believe it was faxe who sent me a copy of the E.U. Certificate of Compliance for his Insight which was originally sold in Germany, but Sweden would not accept it because the Insight VIN encodes that mine is a U.S. rather than an E.U. model. Even though the U.S. has certified the CO2 emissions of my Insight at 80 g/km, Sweden won't accept U.S. emissions data.

Any car whose CO2 emissions are less than 100 g/km gets a registration fee discount. Sweden has classified my Insight as emitting something around 140 g/km, I believe based on the most similar model to mine sold in Sweden, a Honda Civic Hybrid. Therefore, Sweden won't grant me a registration fee discount

ASFAIK You pay a lot of money to get one emissions tested in the way manufacturers do. That's why I only have manual UK cars. Sad but I doubt anyone has the time or money to fix the problem. Unless you know otherwise?

Default UK tax

It may be that your car is being taxed on the basis of engine capacity in the absence of any valid information for emissions
