I just found a 2000 Insight with 140,000 miles. nice shape over all but need a new battery. has plug In power adapter. Guy's asking $2,800 may offer 2k
So what can you tell me about the battery? I guess they sell for 2k, but how hard are they to install? I'm more of a vintage car guy, so I do have some mechanical skills.
If you've got experience maintaining a vintage car, you can mess with the Insight no problem.
Taking out the battery is just a matter of undoing a ton of screws/bolts in the back hatch area and turning off the BIG SWITCH.
I cut my teeth on a 66 VW Bug and then a 70 VW squareback, and while the tech is much different (and not any aftermarket parts), wrenching on the Insight was almost always fun (except all those little trim panel plastic clips! ARGH!).

What Sam said. Replacing the battery isn't technically involved or even messy/greasy, you just have to take some bits apart.

If the only thing wrong with it is the battery, yes.
A new battery brings it to $4800, which is still pretty cheap for an Insight.

The person to talk to about battery replacement is Ron from Hybrid-Battery.com. He has two flavors of Battery's that you can choose from, a rebuilt one or a new one called the Better Battery or BB for short. Check out the website and talk with them.

The strategy is to replace the bad subpacks. We call them sticks.
They're technically serviceable, but it would involve identifying the bad cell(s), cutting them out, and welding new ones in.

There are app. 3,235 posts about the IMA battery here at ICN. Do yourself a favor and try to read most of them. You would be surprised what you can learn....Just a suggestion.
Where is the vehicle located?
