The Australian Citrus Insights are all MY2001 - the first model year delivered to Oz. All Oz Insights are MY2001 except the two black ones which are MY2002.

Australian Citruses really have a 1 as the 10th digit of the VIN? Interesting. Seems to be anomalous to the rest of the world, wonder why.

Hi Racer - My Citrus VIN is JHMZE13501T200030. My Red Insight VIN is JHMZE13501T200037.

I don't know why Australia would be anomalous - although we are strange, you know being upside down and everything. Which makes me think......... Australia was probably the only place in the Southern Hemisphere where G1 Insights were delivered new. All 36 of them!!!

Interesting. Seems like Australia region cars have a 2 as the 12th digit. Canadian cars have an 8 and US cars have a 0.

great story!
i got my '01 5 speed through eBay (72K) for $7500, no regrets. got a new battery pack w/in warrenty = good to go!
i have not seen any 1rst generation (I1) here in S NJ for awhile, have been actally that much more exited when i do. i drive Honda Civics for my job, sometimes 150 miles per day. i do not see other I1 Insights

my post:

on Friday i was at local pizza shop and when leaving w/dinner met a person eying my car. she was exited about 60 mpg, age and design of this car. a real conversation starter. maybe i'll change the color to citrus and see if there what response is! looks like you got a Great deal!

I really hate the silver color and prefer the green much more. You got so lucky this time around bud. Green is so rare.

This is indeed an odd one - Honda ticked over the VIN number to '1', stamped on the body 'in white' (probably late in 2000) yet sprayed some in a colour that wouldn't be ordered by dealers as it had been dropped from the options list.

Theory: If Honda viewed the Citrus as a good launch colour, for display by dealers and to catch the eye of car mags & newspapers, perhaps they did a few specially for promotional purposes in Australia?

Do you by any chance have (or have seen) an Aus 2001 brochure? Does it list Citrus?

That was a great deal you got. Almost a giveaway. I paid $7900.00 for my red "03 MT with approx. 51-52,000 total miles on it in July 2010, and have NEVER regretted it.
The gulf crisis was my main motivator and I am so proud to own and drive the best mass produced MPG vehicle in modern day history (except for the electrics.)
This car rocks. It's a total gem. The only thing I would Not do again, would be the OEM battery upgrade. For the price you paid, you could have a Better Battery installed and still be way ahead.
Good luck with your new family member.
