$91.24 vs $1700 for 1430 miles
my oldest son had an audition yesterday at northwestern as he's gonna be a freshman music major. would've had to buy 3 rt plane tickets from birmingham to chicago as his instrument is too valuable and fragile to check as luggage. couldn't bring myself to pay the 1500 bucks for the 3 tickets plus rent a car or taxi from the airport. so instead the 2 of us and his euphonium (sort of like a small tuba) drove in my '03 blue cvt i bought in december for $6750
with 78000 miles. left 2 days ago and took us almost exactly 12 hours. had the audition yesterday at noon and came right back. took us 13 hours to get back as we caught some bad traffic in chicago and indianapolis. also snowed like heck most of the way back but luckily wasn't sticking. with about 400 pounds of passengers and luggage at 70 mph most of the way, in the cold, with ethanol, i averaged 51.4 mpg (dashboard) and spent 91.24 in gas for the 1430 miles. the car did amazingly well. really comfy as my son slept the final 4 hours of the trip and solid on the road, even with all the huge trucks.
bleary-eyed today but saving over 20% of the cost of the insight in a couple of days....priceless!
