Default Japanese Insights had a front grill?

I just read this on Wikipedia:
"In Japan, 2000 until 2002 models carried a front white Taurus-shaped false-alarm grille, but instead, 2003 until 2006 models cannot have the grille."

I couldn't find any pictures of a Gen1 with a grill, is this a mistake?

Maybe just very rare, or possibly aftermarket. Can't say it's a mistake or not but:
Searching for what seems described in Japanese translation of 'false-alarm grill' +[manufacturer car code]
偽アラームグリル ZE1
I didn't find any covers for the first gen Honda Insight grill, including on Yahoo Japan Auction site, but instead found this ZEI link for false-alarm-grill of a full length aluminum underpan cover similar to that what some members on IC have installed themselves.

Other vehicle though show what appears as expected: a 'winterfront' type plastic cover typically black set over a stock grill.

I guess by 'Taurus-like' in the wiki description it's just an oval cover over the lower opening. I'd like to see a pic too.
May try and make my own version soon as others have with a coroplast sheet from an old election sign, a chunk of insulation, secured with all-weather duct tape to reduce air flow to retain heat.

EDIT: may try グリル塞ぎ +ZE1 search which I think is 'block-grill' in kanji.

I saw that same thing on wiki quite a while ago, and I seem to recall seeing pictures, looked ugly on anything but white cars.

Whoa 52km/l over 1999.9km in one of the pictures on the site that was linked above.
That's 122 miles per US gallon! That's something only a few such as DiamondLarry, RightLaneCruiser, and Wayne Gerdes have done for such a distance. Nice! I'm considering this aluminum pan idea. ..although I'm afraid it would get torn off driving through snow here in MN.

Whoa, that's NUTS. That same guy lightened his flywheel by removing his ring gear(no 12v starting and he probably removed the 12v starter too), has cut valve springs a little to reduce friction, has a fuel injection monitor, injection booster, removed an exhaust valve arm off the cam!!, removed LEDs from the dash cluster, removed and capped and end seal to reduce friction, rotor reduction, removed the 'heavy yellow components'(I'm not going to post what that was people got in trouble on this forum from nanny admins because of this in the past), my Japanese sucks he switched his CVT/MT ECU for the opposite not sure which was which but he said it didn't work when testing, he's been fixing IMA battery/ies, he covered the engine bay with aluminum foal and then spray foamed over the entire top of the engine bay to keep things hot but also as a radiant barrier against the sun, removed the 8.5kg power steering motor, resonator, condensor+a/c, black homemade completely flat wheel covers, MIMA, second battery but bad experience because the self-discharge is double, reduced the resistance via a 6 position switch with 6 resistor settings to IPIN? in the car to boost brake pedal regen(with two packs), he made a bed by making the center cross member the low point and had some setup with a pad going all the way forward to the dash supported by a homemade wood frame, it's flat, long, and looks comfortable. Homemade electric water pump instead of the belt driven one(OMG this guy doesn't need a belt!).

Definitely a MUST READ to go through his posts, if anything just to look at the pictures if you can't read anything. Click "maintenance handbook" for the goodies.

[edit: MN Driver's got it nailed , a must read* (...crossed posts missing his 2nd above)]

... a cool site for sure and upon further look shows a fully wrapped insulated exhaust under the underpan and a series of downward pointing shark fins for lack of another word installed at the back of the underpan.
If you look at the tires he is using, they aren't re-92 either: Yokohama's.
*There are some other features worth running a computer translator on: i.e.
"I cut the valve spring to reduce friction further.
Spring rate is half of normal."
[pics]
[///snip: more pics and woops lost/recovered bolt in assembly///]Results:
"Check engine rev gingerly over ...Surging at 5700rpm.
What a pity! And such was too weak chopper> <
Although I was good with me at least until 6500rpm
You're subtly dangerous Hmm …"
Kudos to Kamapu!

I did a google translation of his text. Lots of interesting mods including the Calpod switch. His underbelly is very similar to mine, but a cleaner design with only two pieces. He had lots of earlier projects but I just included the Insight work. I think that either the author or the google translator gets the direction of fuel economy improvent incorrect.

The date of registration of the Insight has become 12/5/2007.
Initially, the commute, I was 30 km / l as well no matter how good luck.

Lovely doping of Insight? Start ^ ^

A step-by-step ...

C switch. (Clutch switch fake)
This switch is great, (please call him) and I had to imitate my teacher from HP's hiragana. (Was kindly taught the existence of the first things you will wonder how C switch type was Mr. C?)
One switch, I now it is possible to put in the hands of the nearly, and management of the IMA battery.

Order to increase the intake air temperature, duct installation to suck the warm air around Mani EX.

Keep warm engine
It is important to realize that the engine handle seasonal warmth, keep warm engine with urethane foam filler.

Cruise-control fuel type
Charged for the RC servo motor to the accelerator pedal, adjust the throttle in hand
Is released from muscle pain extreme right foot.

A completion of the switch!
Through trial and error, you can now do is idling at any time while driving.
Thanks to this switch, fuel consumption has been dramatically UP.

Water temperature switch trick
Possible even when idling cold
I will likely go into lean burn.

Block grill

Into low-friction bearing hub
When replacing tires, the question on the magnitude of the rotational resistance of the hub of much ...
Shave bearing birth dramatically by special grease and oil seal contact surface processing.

Into low-friction belt cooler
Snip-snap and cut to 2/3 the width of the belt
To loose the last minute you do not slip on startup air conditioning compressor, the belt tension while you're at it.

GRP was added to the oil
Rather than reducing friction, aiming to reduce the damage caused by frequent engine stops.

Duralumin create a floor under cover.
UP's fuel consumption at high speeds
Effect is also somewhat normal running.

Lightweight body
Everywhere.
Navi sheet removal
Compact battery (1.8 kg)
Strut tower bar and battery removal units
Spare tire removal tool kit
Carbonization of the IMA system cover etc.
Many other countries
ー estimated 50kg

Single wiper
Lowdown further into hated the air resistance of the wiper

Rear wiper removal
Motor as well of course.

Remodeling brake caliper
Hated the drag resistance of the brake, the gap I was always open to the pad and disc.

The nerve of this guy or Insight?
It seems too many people who come and say pad was abnormal wear.

Strategy 12V battery last longer
I was not to make unnecessary discharge while driving.

Into low-friction universal joint
I replaced the special cases of grease.

Update

I've covered with insulating material and comfortably the engine and transmission.
Engine is not available heater cool, even in idle stop long downhill reduce warm-up time, even in winter.

Update

Underfloor area expansion into flat bottom.
Slightly 2-3% improvement in fuel efficiency on the highway

Comfortable hotel for Insight, creating Cot.

Update

IMA battery for the management of ...
I put a voltmeter and ammeter.
As a result, more and more come to understand how to control the IMA battery ECU,
Forced charge of the way to work, regeneration is no longer abandoned.

Increased by about 1.3 to 1.5 times the available capacity of the IMA battery, ^ ^ v

Flat bottom diffuser attached to the rear end.
Effect Fuel economy is question is a question I · · · · · The visual explosion (

Ultra Green, 2 ℓ the engine oil.
Mission oil half and half blend of green and MTF Ⅲ. , 0.8 ℓ.
Did a little lighter?

Footwork Mods and by making full use of the above, the summer of 2008, 2000 kilometers without refueling
We achieved 51.9 km / l Yomide meter.
It can run at position 45 km / l # 45 km / l about, even at high speed commute.
If it is over 60 laps of the course location limited.

Update.

Petit plug into

Operation at 12V deep cycle battery disconnect the electrical system
Fuel economy improvement of about 10%.

However, the break-even in terms of electricity bills ^ ^;
It is not a benefit if you do not use power even late at night ^ ^;

Electrification of the water pump
Fuel economy improvement of 2 ~ 3km / l

2300km achieve oilless Spring 2010

Tail cone?
Aerodynamic improvement.
Ritter also allows over 50 on the highway ...
(Achieved in Kyoto ⇔ Ehime)

New friends has increased,
ZE-1 5MT Insight Silver
And
ES-9 CVT Civic Hybrid Silver

And
It is the ZE-1CVT red.

It is the transformation of fuel asshole as seen ^ ^;

But thank you very much.
