Default P1600 and P1448 code: A new battery is needed ?

Hi,

I have a 2000 Insight with 200500 Km on it. I had the bright idea not driving it for several months and now the result is I have IMA problems.

Twice now I have the dreaded IMA and check engine lights on. The first time I've reset it without looking at the code, but the second time I took it to my Honda dealer to get the code and it reported P1600, which I can't find what it is and P1448, which is battery overheating. Just having P1448, I'll be inclined to check the fan but P1600, what does it tell me ? Of course, the dealer cannot tell me exactly what that P1600 really means but recommend changing the entire IMA pack, which I did two years ago.

My question is: with these code, is it really a matter of a faulty fan that I could fix or I need to re balance my battery pack with a grid charger ?

I love this car and I recently put a lot of money into it (shifter cable, gaz line, rear shocks absorber, etc..) but now I'm at a point that I need to decide if I'm keeping it (with or without IMA) or just make sure the 12V battery gets recharged by disconnecting the BCM (I believe) and sell it, just to get even with the recent repair costs...

Thank you in advance,
Leo

You mean P1449 and P1600.

It is unlikely that your fan has died and the P1449 is the cell overheating code. It will likely be P1449-78, which is battery module deterioration.

Give us a call, we'll be happy to discuss your options - from a new battery to a grid charger.

Well, one of the code given was P1448 not P1449. So, I don't know why you refering to P1449...

Thank you for your time,
Leo

Also have a look at
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6ED...1ZWE0MmQ0/edit
in the Advanced Diagnostics folder in the repair manual appendices. It concerns the P1448 specifically.
Here's on P1600 in same folder:

If you download these repair manual pdf's onto your computer they may be found better searchable: Insight Gen 1 Google Docs
