Unfortunately(or fortunately, depending on which side of the fence you're on), since the customer returns the core in our packaging, any damage is on us & a claim would be filed with the carrier.
Have not had any problems thus far though.. knock on wood.

Let's say he keeps the battery case. Then a year later decides he wants to put in one of your batteries. If he tried to give you his broken case as a core return, you probably could not accept it.

Ah. I see what you meant.
Yes, good point. If the broken bits weren't in the box, we might have a problem.

I bought a "guarranteed used" battery from a guy on ebay that was also packed with seat foam just like yours. The battery came with a 1 year warranty. The battery took a crap after two months. It was over the time limit for a paypal refund, the guy would not answer any of my calls and ebay was of no help. Was this guy located n Ohio?
It was replaced 2 & a half years ago on this Insight when the car had only 41k miles on it.
Um, yeah, it's likely garbage. I guess 16k miles in 2 years isn't that bad, but it depends entirely on how exactly that played out. If it was 17 miles per day, you're good. If it was 16k miles in a year and then it sat for 1.5, no.
Basically, there is no way to tell. A junkyard pack is a total gamble.
I know they said they rebalanced them, but most people don't understand the true scope of what that means. Running them through a charger balances them, but unless you find the weak cells, the battery quickly returns to its previous state.

Yes, head-met, Ohio. Sorry about your situation. That is definitely another signal that I want nothing to do with this guy. He had a 100% positive feedback rating, but I did read a little closer after I received the battery and immediately saw a comment from someone who also got a poorly packaged and damaged part but gave praise about a no fuss refund. Like you, though, I have not yet received a response to my complaint so I've already opened a case with Ebay who should guarantee the refund.
The seller is called manicautoparts. Probably good information for everyone here to know. I traded one message with the seller after the sale but before the shipment and it was someone named John.

There's nothing more I hate than dishonest sellers that don't honor the 1 year warranty promised. I would have returned an envelope stuffed with some junk advertisements, with delivery confirmation, waited about a month, and then filed a credit card dispute saying the battery was dead so you returned it to the seller. That's how I would get my money back from this Scam artist SOB

If it is just those small wings, i would not worry, the case is made of a very strong plastic, I first came across such material in the 1980s, optical bedplates for lasers, previously cast in steel, which lost accuracy and alignment due to creepage over time, problem solved when they changed to the plastic. you could jump up and down and even drive a car over the new type of laser bedplate with no effect, such was the strength and stability of the material.
