Sounds like we agree. Yes, if you can accelerate or maintain speed, it isnt in the danger zone so to speak. If you got vibrations, harmonics, you hear the rods knocking, etc its time to try a lower gear.

To an extent you can do that with the newer insight. Its cvt in select a ratio mode will let you force it into a fixed ratio within reason and up til 45 mph you can get better mpg than it does. Once over 45 mph it uses a lower final ratio and runs more rpms and burns mo gas.
