You've come to the right place.

I have some questions about this and grid charging. First, can the 989 be used as a grid charger since it can do up to 25 NIMH cells at one time?
|
Not in the context you're thinking; the Insight battery has 120 cells inside of it. See below.

If so can you build a harness for it or do the batteries have to be removed from the car?
|
The batteries must be removed from the car.

Does anyone have step by step instructions in how to build a grid charger.

Step by step? No, unfortunately not.

I can't decipher an electrical schematic. And I mean a fairly simple one.

Then you likely shouldn't attempt to build one yourself. Sorry.

Please give me a simple lesson on grid chargers. I just had my batteries replaced under warranty, but the car will be out of warranty the next time it happens so I would like to have a grid charger to help make them last. Thanks for your help.

Give us a call, we'd be happy to discuss your grid charger options.
Basically, there are two options available.
1) Set it and Forget it; The Ronco appliance of grid chargers.

2) Dumb, in an endearing, Forrest Gump type of way.

Often misunderstood and probably better left for the more technically minded.

Avoid the insanely priced one on eBay, if it's still there.
