Default How much does Autostop really save?

I doubt stopping the idling engine saves that much gas (unless you're stuck in an hour of stopped traffic). At highway speeds, with the engine idling, my insight's instant MPG bar shows 480mpg. It barely sips any gasoline.

Then you must not drive around town much.

So you think all hybrids have this feature just for fun?

I probably spend about 15 minutes auto-stopped on my daily commute. That's enough for me to appreciate the feature.

to explain how much it saves you may want to consider how much
fuel it uses at idle per minute.

If you take my guess that gasoline fueled engines burn fuel
at the rate of 8 oz per horsepower-hour...

and that an insight at idle is using 4 horsepower?

one hour at idle is a quart of fuel
or about 1/2 oz per minute.

( I think this is a low side guess. idle seems to use more fuel)

my car goes about 1 mile on 2 oz of fuel.

ok?

now here is the real test.
what benefit do you get from ANY fuel burnt at idle?

I think autostop was more about reducing emissions, not that it won't save gas as well...

citrus..can ya elaborate why you think he's "trolling" just curious as what ya found

eq1, i think your right about that. I also think a person who uses AS carefully (looking ahead at stop lights, rolling low speed traffic, how to shut down at 19 etc) will save a decent amount over time

For an automated way to do this, vBulletin has an ignore list.

Choose the "User CP" in the blue bar above, then under the "Settings and Options" heading on the left side, choose "Edit Ignore List."

Enter any user name you desire, hit "Okay," and you're done.

Most people seem not to know about the ignore list, and frankly, it can really reduce strife among members when well utilized. Not everyone gets along with everyone .
