Well of course, a 2006 is under 10 years old and still under the warranty. Mine is over.

2006s don't have the extended battery warranty that your car has. My warranty is technically DONE 50000 miles ago and yet the dealer still said he could get it replaced for free. (Maybe he's in-tight with the CEO or something... I don't know.) The point is: You don't know until you ask.

Well, I took it in this afternoon as per the suggestions here. I should know tomorrow what happens next. Hope I didn't waste $150 to be told something I already know.

Got a call from the service adviser telling me the tech determined the IMA battery is bad. Well duh, I already knew that. He said the car is out of warranty. Knew that too. He will have his boss call Honda tomorrow to see if they will cover it or any part of it seeing it's a $4K-$5K job. I can imagine maybe they will offer me to do the job at cost, like maybe $3K. Yea, thanks but no thanks. We shall see.

They charged me $300 for my out of warranty repair. Apparently it helped that I purchased the car used from a Honda dealer.

The service rep called this morning telling me they cant cover it seeing it's out of warranty. He suggested I call Honda CS and ask for some assistance since it's only 2 month out. I'll try that when I get home. This is the 9th Insight I've owned so maybe that will mean something but I doubt it.

Sorry to hear that, but others may benefit from our experience. Honda should be able to give an upfront answer (yes, no way, this much assistance if it is the battery) to the question BEFORE having to spend $100+ at their shops to CONFIRM the code. The process seems to border on a bait and switch among the local shop and the 800 customer service reps.
