Default Any chance of getting a battery on Honda's dime 2 months out of warranty?

And with 122,000 miles. Just got it so I never had it serviced myself.

Freeway Honda offered to give me a new battery. I said "But that warranty doesn't apply to 2006" and they insisted they can get me a new battery if it fails their inhouse test.

Point: Try visiting a few dealers for an oil change, and mention that your battery is bad, and ask if a new one is possible under Honda's warranty. You may get lucky like I did and find a dealer willing to hand-over a new battery. (But only if it's truly bad.)

It's throwing a code P1447. I don't want to spend a $150 check out charge to tell me something I already know.

Well then tell them that. But I bet they'll still want to run the battery though testing before they just hand you a new one for free. (In my case there was no charge, but that's because I was already spending $700 for a new oil pan install.)

Yes I did tell them that and of course I understand they would have to check the car out before handing me a new one for free. I'd just like to know if the battery is in fact bad, will Honda cover it 2 months out of the warranty. I did notice on the paperwork that the car was traded in at the dealership I called, also after the warranty expiration date.

Yes, the battery is bad.

Honda will perform "Goodwill" warranty repairs at their discretion. You would get a refurbished battery(not new) for some apparently discounted price. They may insist that you also purchase new IMA computers, basically negating the deal.

There is no "battery test". Dealerships do not have sophisticated equipment to test the battery. They hook up the Honda diagnostic tool and the car tells them what the problem is(IMA battery) and the software tells them how to fix it(Replace IMA battery).

My experience with Honda (thru 800 customer service) is the first person will take your info (1 month and 7K miles over with IMA/CEL light and 144X code) and proceed to say "take it in to have the Honda diagnostic run to confirm code". Upon being asked about the chances Honda will provide either a battery replacement or at least some "goodwill" assistance, the response was the chances were very good. After taking in the car and having the diagnostic run ($109) and waiting a coupe of weeks, the second "customer service rep" calls back and very rudely says "Honda is not in the business of repairing used cars...." When asked about the possibility of getting the $109 refunded, a similiar rude response...."

So, beware. Then again you might get lucky.

PS - I suspect it has to do with how much service work you have had done (profit) at the local Honda dealership.

I don't feel lucky. I've had no service done there. Guess I'll forget about the idea.

Jesus... Just go to the dealer and ASK them already, as you've been repeatedly exhorted, instead of talking yourself out of it... And if they do charge you a few dollars for diag, and they see that you need one, they will usually roll that in to the warranty work and not charge you. And if they tell you to go pound sand, just get a new battery from one of our sources. Whatever, it's still going to be a hell of a lot cheaper that going without a new(er) battery...

What he said. You don't know until you go visit the dealer and say, "Hey my battery is dying. Isn't that under a warranty from Honda?" - That's how I found-out..... I was at the dealer for a new oil pan, mentioned my problem, and the dealer volunteered to help me get a new one (if it fails their test). I even tried to talk them out of it:

- I'm pretty sure my 2006 is not warranted.
- "Oh yes it is! I've verified it with my boss." So there you are.
