to use those buttons you will have to get a CVT clock-spring/cable reel, or modify your manual one to accommodate the wires for the buttons. Probably better to get a used CVT reel, than to tinker with sensitive airbag cables.

I have the same cruise controls on the RSX wheel I got. I havent got around to findind any use for them.

Personally, I'd rig them up for volume control for my stereo. Actually, I'd probably program a microcontroller so you could get many different functions out of them, by holding them down longer, double-tapping them, etc.

You could get at least six functions that way - button 1, button 2, long-press button 1, long-press button 2, double-tap button 1, double-tap button 2.

Default Cruise disassembled...

Strange sliding contacts... I have a new LED rocker switch to the right... I want to mount 2 of these in place of old cruise buttons... 1 for CALPOD and a future use for a second...

Connect the load and supply in parallel with the clutch switch down at the pedal. Do not connect the earth, it is there to ground the LED in the switch and the clutch circuit is not designed to power it.

you got another problem with the LED rocker switch and Calpod mod. The switch is designed to switch +12volt devices (not the ground side like the Calpod mod). As you may know, the LED will not work when connected backwards. To have a lighted switch with the Calpod mod, you need to find the older style lighted switches that have a light bulb instead of an LED. You could try to take the switch apart to reverse polarity but the one I tried made it nearly imposible to do so since the LED was inside the toggle portion molded with a resistor. I ended up using a light bulb older style switch.

Besides that, please take note of O2Insight's comments about the difference of CVT and MT reels. The MT model will not connect those extra wires that you need. The CVT reel has the extra two lines for sport and drive buttons. Not sure if you know what he meant in that response but you will eventually have to work that problem out.

It would be a shame to bin the two buttons.
I note they share a common connection.

There are three spare wires in a manual cable reel but you have to solder to some very small bits to get the connections made. The airbag is not an issue really as that is well seperated from the horn and spare connectors.
You have to trace the spare connections through the spring to work out which is which.

As has been stated a CVT clock spring would be easier but note you also need the connector from the car side of the clock spring on the wiring loom as the manual one is not populated with all the wires or female sockets.

I would use it for the calpod brake switch and if you are clever with a couple of little 12v SPST relays on the car side you could do the clutch switch as well with just the three wires.

Or mima as I demonstrated some time ago using two resistive pads
