considering adding a 2006 CVT insight to keep my 2000 MT company
Not sure if this problem bleeds into the insight, but the 1st gen civics with CVT had massive problems and numerous recalls, (honda running a large scale experiment) anyone see similar issues with the insight CVT?
also, any un-moddedCVT owners able to get north of 60MPG or is that just a dream?
There are numerous reports of the cvt puking, typically over 200k miles. Mpg depends on your driving style, terrain, traffic, etc. my worst tank was over 59 mpg, best 78 mpg. With the cold temps the past two months I can only get 65 mpg. Compared to other cvt owners I think my drive allowed me to get higher than normal mpgs.

My 2006 started making "noise" at 250,000 it got progressively worse for the next 30,000 miles. So I changed it out with a 2004 with 80,000 miles on it. I took the transmission apart and could only find some "rubs" between the driven clutch basket and the apposing "Phonic wheel" , no bearing problems and everything else looked OK. As parts are not available I packed it up and put it in my "projects pile"

Umm, no offense, but some car owners might find 250K noise-free [and apparently trouble free] miles sort of good for a transmission.
wow pretty impressive stats needforspeed, rivals what i get on my 2000 MT. maybe the CVT isnt all that bad.... im pretty happy if i can get north of 60 on a CVT. well if it gets over 200k thats legit, the civics get like 60k then get the classic judder and eventually fail.
I've read at least half a dozen posts, maybe more, of people complaining about noisy CVTs, most often a "growling" noise, and then, about the costs, difficulty of repair or replace... I drove one CVT with such a noise, really unbearable. But then, I think I saw one or two posts about how the CVTs are reliable and strong if you take care of them, change the fluid at the correct intervals...
I finally fully dissembled mine and could find no "failed" parts. the only issue was noticeable end play on the main shaft caused by wear in the "key slot" in the indeterminate case allowing the shaft to transition laterally enough to allow contact between the phonic wheel and the clutch drum. If it happens again I will run it to failure, which I think will take a long long time.
