Do an Internet search for MOMO shift knobs.
The have so many great ones I ended up buying
two different styles and change them about.
They are not cheap but the quality is first rate.
I'll second the Momo ones, very nice stuff, not cheap though. One recommendation you might take in to consideration. The one I have is leather with a chrome partial top. In the summers the chrome gets really freakin hot so I have to grab around it with my fingers until the car cools off enough. That or I just keep the little sock on it for a while. Leather is nice, but a shifter ball see's probably the most wear of any leather so to keep it in good shape you'll need to put leather conditioner on it fairly frequently.

The 98-00 Civic 2d Si has a factory equipped stitched on leather shift knob. However, this will also require the same models the shifter boot. Its different from the Insight in both reach and how it trims with the knob.
If you don't mind 1/2" or so gap between the knob and boot the knob will be all you need. Simply trim the locking tabs from the bottom of the knob. I haven't checked whether or not the boot is an exact fit. It may require some needle and thread work to transfer the sewn in locking collar to the Insight's shifter boot.
I use the shift knob from my 1985 CRX-HF. It fits like a charm. That little knob has over 425,000 miles on it! It went from my CRX to my 1997 Civic Hatchback and now to my 2004 Insight.
but its for an s-2000... will that fit? You would think that honda would use standard thread
the threads are 10 x 1.5mm
I am upset that i cant find a nice leather one for any reasonable price! But its ok, cause these guys will etch the insight logo onto there for me, along with their special logo of a ferari looking logo but with a chicken instead of a hoarse! I guess aluminum will have to do, at least it will cool off quickly

To my understanding, there is a lot of common parts between the S2000 and the Insight. I would assume that the shift lever is the same.
A lot of parts are similar, like an engineer pulled up existing parts and saved time by redesigning them instead of comming up with an entirely new part. Beyond that respect it's difficult to know for sure. On the S2000 there's a major difference in the shift linkages to begin with. The shifter on the S sits right on top of the transmission itself. You shift a rod that goes right down to the transmission with a very short throw. On our Insight's the shifter is connected to two cables which to up front to the transmission. If I had access to a S2000 I'd go find out, but I don't. I do however know they sell a very expensive titanium shift knob for the S2000 as a ~$175 accessory .
