Honda Stopping Production of 2005 Insight in March?
I have said on this fourum before that I want to get a 2005 Navy Blue Pearal Insight around when I grauduate(around 6 months). I have heard from Rick that Honda stopped production of the 04 Insight in March, and that he wouldn't be surprised if they did so whith this years. So does anyone know if this is a guarantee that they are going to stop production of the 2005 Insight in March? I have e-mailed Honda myself about this but no reply. I am afraid that if they do stop production of the 2005 Honda Insight that I may not be able to get one.
I think March is about right. I am getting a new 2005 red 5-spd, hopefully with NO air. The build date in Japan is Jan 4, with delivery to me about Feb 12. Apparently the production run will be short, with very few being brought to North America. So get with your dealer NOW! Billy.....

Oh great just what I thought. Now I probly won't be able to get one, man this pisses me off. I just don't get it why make the car and then just stop making it all of the sudden? I aint going to be able to get one because I don't have the money, the only way is if my parents let me use some of my settlement money in the bank.
Chris,
They have been making Insights from model year 2000 to model year 2005 that's a long time for a Japanese car.
You could try to buy a used Insight instead of a new one.
That's what I did. The one I bought was as good as new for half the price.

The Insight is a Japaneese car, I never knew that. As for getting a used one, I don't think I would find one. In my area it is you either buy a new one from the dealer or I guess don't get one. I have not seen any used Insights around at all. And even if I did I probly wouldn't get it in the color I wanted, or something would probly be wrong with it. I am not too fond of buy a used vehicle, I would rather stick with the new one because then whatever damage is done to it is done by me.
AFAI remember production was stopped early last year because of some restructuring in manufacturing (shifting locations of production and R&D) that Honda was doing in Japan.
Whether or not Honda will only do a short production run next year still remains to be seen.
And AFAI remember there were still some 04 models available well after production ended. So don't give up hope yet!
I was always a new car buyer until my first Insight, and then I was so happy with the bang for the buck on the used Insight I purchased (from a Dodge dealer, no less) that I convinced my girlfriend to do the same and we are both equally happy. We got hers from private sellers. We met them (duh!) and they are really nice people and took great care of their Insight (they named her Jane, in fact). We kept her name in honor of them, in fact.
You need to learn a bit about what to look for and figure out if the seller is a crook or not (for the GF's car, I first was involved in trying to buy one from what turned out to be a crook named 'Maurice' down East of LA), but after that it's wonderful to have the car.
If I had not gone to the 2nd hand market, I never would have been able to get one (I wanted a manual) and we got such good prices that we have two for the price of one and neither has had any problems other than a busted rear wiper nozzle which cost $50 to have fixed at the dealer.
You can also get a Honda warranty, which you can cancel at any time and get your pro-rata cash back, if you worry.
I vote to keep your eyes on the second hand market, and at least talk to some sellers. If they aren't local, you can then decide if it is worth the trip.
A lot of folks here have flown out to their sellers, and driven back. I don't know if anyone has had a problem yet doing that.
As for getting a used one, I don't think I would find one. In my area it is you either buy a new one from the dealer or I guess don't get one.
The other day an ebay 10,000 mile Insight sold for only $12,000. That's a lot cheaper than buying new. That was NJ, but if you keep searching ebay eventually one will appear in FL: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... gory=31839
Carmax.com has a a used ~25,000 mile Insight for $13,000. They'll ship it to your house.
So YES it is possible to get a used Insight to your home.

"2005 Honda Insight If replaced, and it is not definite, it will look almost identical to the IMAS Tokyo concept car, and be powered by an updated version of the current hybrid gas/electric drivetrain."
I just picked my used 2000 Insight at Ebay. It has 70K miles on it. I had the seller take it to a Honda store to check it out after I won the bid, but before I sent the money. I live in CA and he lives in TX. The shipping is only $550.00. BTW Gillman Honda in Houston was great and the car is perfect they say. Nice to get a second trusted opinion. Plus Gillman only charged me $130 for a complete inspection, rotation and oil and lube.
