Default Where to order my new Insight? Small or Large?

I am getting ready to order my new insight 2/IMAS. I live in Tampa, FL area and I am wondering if Larger dealerships have preference over the ones in smaller towns or if it makes any difference. I just don't want to order early and still be at the "bottom" of the list. I'm hoping to go order today.

Thanks for your input.

AFAIK a "large" dealership that may _already_ have an Insight in its allocation could be "faster". But once your in the system you'll get one.

The problem right now is production. As you are aware Honda has only manufactured the Insight in limited production "runs" for the last couple of years, the first of 05 already being sold out. There are rumors that Honda is planning a second run. I guess you'll find out if you try to order one

The 06 model Civic is _rumored_ to have a next generation engine available that even without the hybrid system will approach 60 MPG.

If you can wait maybe its best to revisit your purchase decision in late August when the scoop will be available on this new model. On the other hand if its doesn't turn out to be what you would want you may miss the opportunity to purchase an 05 Insight permanently. And as we all know the rumors persist that this will be the last year of the Insight. :P

HTH!

I've contacted American Honda, and Honda UK, and neither admit to even hearing of the IMAS. They thought I was talking about the IMA system. American Honda told me they weren't even told when the Ridgeline was coming out until a month before it did, so don't expect dealers to know anything. There is no confirmation that there will even be an Insight 2/IMAS, so until it is officially announced, don't get your hopes up. If you go to a dealer and say you want to order one, they won't know what you're talking about. The only place I know of that says there will be an IMAS (in autumn of 2006) is autotrader uk, and they couldn't tell me where they got their information.

bfivelover is right. All the indications are there that the Insight 2 will be manufactured but it hasn't been confirmed yet. I am waiting on 'spy shots' to confirm it for me, then I will be the first down to the dealership to order one as well!

If Honda do not bring out the Insight 2 , I will be tempted by the new Civic
- just not sure whether to go for the 220bhp Type RR (not a typo) or the latest IMA. See link:

Oh, good, another "pocket rocket" to kill off more high school kids. I have nothing against these cars, but in the wrong hands, death abounds!

Probably the only "kid" that could afford one would be a drug dealer, in which case, law of natural selection etc. etc.

At least it will have the latest safety features, unlike my old CRX SI ( that has 220,000 KM without a scratch).

Sorry, but nothing but a wishful thinking.

Old Civic HFs & VXs got around ~40 mpg. How can a brand new civic which weighs good 500-700lbs more than the aforementioned old school Civics get 60 mpg w/o IMAS? Gasoline engines aren't that efficient (unless the car ways 500lbs).

COSWorth,

Do you have a Civic VX? Mine gets a good 50 mpg without any special treatment. Car and Driver got 67 on a test run in 1993. Mine has 250K miles still going strong which is why I have keep it so long. Also if you read some reports hybrid drivers get nowhere near the EPA claims. The Civic VX was EPA rated at 57mpg hwy. Have fun, Rick

and press reports / Honda statements advise that the new Civic engines will be 'state of the art'....

Well _my_ old CRX HF use to *average* 50 MPG and I did a one tank best of 57 MPG. That was before I learned the hyper MPG driving style. (the Insight's MPG meter will teach you if you let it )

So it can be done, and yes you'll have to drive in the style to achieve it
