That is weird! And the mats weren't included?

Nope. The tabs were the same color as the carpet (light biege/grey)

Hmm. I got the all weather rubber mats and the dealer/salesman did not have the anchors attached. He actually left them in the bag with the instructions.

I actually never installed the clips. I talked to a Honda service person, who didn't like the installation process. He said he thought the floor carpeting would eventually rip.

Did you pay for installation? If so then they have to install the anchors.
Your case sounds like you purchased the parts only but I can't say for sure.

Obviously that service person was making an irresponsible excuse and charging the company for not doing his job. The anchors are there for a reason. Honda's installation instruction has specifically stated the anchors are there to prevent the mats from slipping forward, which may get the gas pedal stuck underneath it (probability is not discussed here).

Would it eventually rip? I can't tell, but at least I have them installed by myself for 11 months and I ain't seeing the mats moving forward by a tad bit. In fact, if you read the installation instruction, the way that the anchors are installed is very unlikely ripping the floor carpet.

Got the mats free. Had them properly installed w/ the anchors yesterday, along with the fog lights.

After reading the instructions and seeing the little rubber spikes on the underside of the mat, I threw out the anchors thinking there was no way the mat would slip. Lo and behold the mat slipped and slid all over the place and it was a great source of annoyance. I eventually bought new anchors from a dealer (I probably could have just zip-tied to the seat mounts but I figured the anchors would reduce movement even better). Now I don't have to keep adjusting the driver mat back into place anymore. INSTALL THEM! Don't throw them out!

I actually bought them offline and felt uncomfortable cutting into the floor myself. I brought the car in and talked to a service tech at a dealership about the clips. He said that the other Hondas already have hooks built into the seat. Is the Insight the only one that anchors the hooks to the carpeting?
My one year Insight anniversary is approaching. I've adjusted the mat now and then, but it's never even come close to getting up near the gas pedal.

The dealership installed them properly and I'm glad I had it done. The driver's mat had been pushed too far forward before and now it sits back, flush with the back edge of the floor, where the seat begins. This is where the holes were drilled and the mat attached.
