I used the form at cars.com. They only allow you to send a message to three dealers at a time - so click send, then back, select three more, then send again... you can send to 20 dealers in about 60 seconds.

This also has the advantage of it usually gets to the dealers Internet manager, who is used to e-mail deals, not the general sales force.

Got invoice price $20,098 + 5.5% tax

They kept trying to charge me for the mudguards and wheel locks but in the end they ended up eating the cost on those too.

Was at Napleton Honda in Loves Park, IL. Their internet sales guy was awesome to work with.

Bought the LX at invoice on April 30: $18,687.

Grand total $20,797.13 out-the-door.

Traded in my 1998 Chev Cavalier at $1100 to get that price. Free floor mats, haggled a bit on the mudguards and cargo cover.

From first post:
Honda Insight EX with 5% Massachusetts sales tax: $21,135
State Fees: $104
Minimum price a dealer would possibly accept: $21,239
My Offer: $21,400 OTD, inclusive of ALL taxes and fees (which is a $161 margin for the dealer - if you're not in a rush, try pushing this $50-100 lower!)

I paid $20281 + $1015 tax + $104 state registration/title. (And not a penny more for garbage fees like the doc fee or other nonsense.)

Read the instructions in the first post and follow them, you can get a much better deal than what you're being offered.

Thanks for your reply!
I am fairly certain I'll be able to get that deal...what i really want though is what the other guy got from the Loves Park, IL dealership $20,098 inclusive of destination + tax + title....i'm trying to get there...we'll see.
When I contacted that dealership...they told me well give me the name of the guy who bought it for that price and we'll see what we can do...so i've PM'd him to let him know of the situation...we'll see...anyway thanks again!

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the post, this is some really great info. Given the info you've posted, Im in CA with an 8.75% sales tax and $306 in title and registration charges from the state. Given those numbers, true invoice of an EX at $20129 + 8.75 sales tax is + $306 to the state comes out to $22196. Given that ammount I should be trying for a price of around $22300 out the door, or is my math off? Thanks again for the info and help!

Yep, Morgank6, that's right on! Happy deal hunting!

Also: whoa, 8.75%??? Massachusetts is going up from 5% to 6.25% in a few days, and we're all grumbling about that much.

Default trade in?

I have a car to trade in, and was wondering how that would effect a deal like this? I'm upside down on the car, and will need to roll in whateveris left from the trade-in into financing. Should I change the e-mail to let them know I have a trade in, or am I stuck going into a dealership to negotiate? Thanks again, this info rocks!
