Default Mpg?

At the end of the article they showed their MPG averages. How do they achieve these bad numbers? Even when I drive mine aggressively I still end up getting the EPA rating or better! I am beginning to think this is a conspiracy to make the Insight look bad.

I get those numbers..

The lowest number of about 29 mpg for me is achieved by driving 1/2 mile only one way then back again later. No warm up time, no Econ mode selected. With the air on in 90 + heat. Not hard to do. This is probably how they got it.

You'll notice that Edmund's claimed 51 MPG average during their first Insight test. Odd that these expert car testers would now fall so short of their own original numbers.

It would sure be nice if they would post how they did their tests. I too am amazed that they can't get better mileage in the real world. I have not gotten less than 43. Hopefully they will learn how to drive it to achieve the best mileage in their 12 month test.

Must have been a 14 year old teenager (Still with learners permit) with a lead foot that tested the Insight.....

I wish it (Testing) was video recorded so that we could assist the poor inexperienced lads on how to test drive an Insight, not to mentioned having a good laugh.

One of the testers probably had a boat trailer hooked up and forgot to mention it in his review.

Worse mpg to date is 44mpg. I have the ac on max all the time, drive with my high beams and lights on and econ off so the ac stays cold at stop lights. Past tank was 48. That includes a mile drive down the road and back daily for lunch.
