I agree, software surely has got something to do with it. Somehow the 'clutch' doesn't seem to communicate with the rest of the engine (and driver) management. You can see this happening sometimes when I've stopped at some traffic light. The engine cuts out, I release the beak pedal, engine revs up a bit, 'clutch' engages and the car lurches forward without me even touching the accelerator. This shouldn't really happen, it feels rather unrefined.
