Okay, I couldn't stand that Fiamm Highway Blaster. It is rated at 132db but it really doesn't sound like it is. I think some of those ratings are tested a certain way at a certain distance and aren't very accurate.
Anyway, I took off the Fiamm Highway Blaster and replaced it with the
WOLO Badboy. Hooked it up to the included Relay and installed an inline
20amp fuse between the battery and the relay. The relay mounted very easily on one of the battery hold down bracket posts. Ran the line from the original Honda horn switch to the Relay. Instead of cutting the wire I used
a homemade connector and plugged it into the Honda horn plug. Then ran 16gauge wire from the plug to the relay Number 85 position. Then ran a ground wire from the Number 86 position to where the battery ground is attached to the car body. I ran the inline fuse from the battery to the Relay number 30 position and then ran a 16 gauge wire from the Relay number 87 position to the positive terminal on the Wolo Badboy horn. Then one more ground wire from the Negative terminal to the frame of the car. There is already a ground connection close to the horn and it was really easy to hook up.
The way I ran the wires you can hardly see them and I covered most of the two wires going back to the horn from the Relay with some plastic wire cover I had laying around. Looks almost factory. And WOW, what a difference this
horn makes. I was pleasantly surprised with the sound quality and loudness.
No, it's not a 3000 Dollar Super Duper Train Horn but it does the job and it is much louder than the so called 132db Fiamm Highway Blaster.
I had mixed feelings on getting the Wolo thinking that the compressor would need to spool up and there would be a delay in sounding off. Not the case at all. The Horn sounds off immediately and loudly at the slightest touch of the stock horn button. You can give it short bursts or a very loud and attention getting long one. It will definitley get you noticed and in my opinion it was well worth the 39 bucks I paid at Autozone and the 30 minutes it took me to install it.
And if you don't want to mess with the relay you really don't have to.
I tried it without the relay first and it worked fine just hooking it up to the positive stock horn wire and running another wire to the ground. However,
I just felt better with the relay since the stock horn circuit is only 10 amps and they recommend a 20amp fuse. Didn't want to replace horn fuses on a regular basis or fry the stock wiring which I think is only a 20 gauge wire.
Anyway, I am very happy with the Wolo Badboy horn. Now I don't have to be embarrased to use my horn in case I need to.
