Default Oil Pan heaters?

Anyone use one of these yet on their I2 or another vehicle?

Amazon.com: Kats 24150 150 Watt 4"x 5" Universal Hot Pad Heater: Automotive

Amazon.com: Kats 1153 Hand-Heat 200 Watt Magnetic Heater: Automotive

Installing the OEM block heater on my HCH II was a pain in the butt, to put it mildly, and the I2 looks to be a similar job. These would be a lot easier.

No, but I am thinking of getting their type for the bottom of my 12V bat.

Honda Parts Counter dude quoted me $80 for the official block heater - screws into the engine block -- must be professionally installed. Not sure how much installation is, but it can't be cheap.. Anyone got this? I just want to hit the road "warm" in the winter to boost my mpg..

idle for 30 seconds until the rpms drop a bit ? thats all you need. gas engine cars unlike diesels dont really need more than 30s to 2 min (at the worst case) idling to warm up.

At 37 deg F, my 2010 insight took 6 minets of idling before the cold lamp went out. I caculated it took .05 gallons of extra gas to warm up in yard, rather than driving slowly durring warmup.

Since my car parks outside year round, I want to keep many parts warm durring the night, in my winters (-10 to +30 F).

Its not necessary, but its nice. If you want the car hot when you go to it you need to get an aftermarket one at least 1000 watts by katz or something.

Block Heater Install

I have the Honda OEM one on my Civic hybrid and a Kats EBH on my I 2. Both look virtually identical and screw in the same. Personally, the Kats one is far more effective and is cheaper, around $23 on Amazon. I like OEM but in this case, I'd just get the Kats and do it myself.
