Default Navi worth it on EX?

We are torn between getting the GPS or not on an EX. Price is a factor, I can get an EX non-GPS for invoice, or an EX with Nav for 500 over invoice.

My question is:

Will I still get steering wheel controls on an EX without GPS?

No steering wheel audio controls without navi. Total bummer.

I wish I had the steering wheel audio controls but I could not justify spending so much on navi.

That sucks. Now it's a matter of deciding if it is worth an extra $2300 (1800 + 500 over invoice) for steering wheel controls. I would say most likely not.

It certainly wasn't worth it to me. It is really irritating when you can buy a portable GPS unit for $200 but to get one built into the car costs thousands. Sure, I understand the benefit and I think $600 or so would be a fair cost for such an upgrade, but I can't justify $2,300.

In fact, I wanted the base model but my wife insisted on having cruise-control so we had to go with the EX just to get that one feature.

Now, as for what that will do to the resale value of the vehicle remains to be seen. Naviation is getting more popular in vehicles and 5 years from now it may be hard to sell a car without it. But I have no plans to sell the vehicle so it didn't really matter that much.

You can get an adapter for 30 bucks, then use any head unit you want with nav, camera, etc, etc, etc. Just make sure to get the adapters too to wire it up.

IIRC I decided to NOT get Honda's NAV model because it cannot display live traffic reports.

Even a $300 Garmin can.

You get way more than just cruise control on the EX vs LX.

Seeing as how even mobile phones are integrating GPS navigation, I don't think that the stock navi unit will add that much to cars' resale value. Certainly not the I2, IMO.

I asked a similar question before buying my Insight. I decided to get the NAV since I travel for work in the Insight all-the-time. It has been fantastic...way better than the NAV in my previous car (VW Passat). I love the trip planner...although I wish it could do more than 5 points.

I work for a wireless company and travel quite a bit (4,100 miles last month and 15k+ since May 21st)...and I'm on the phone a lot...so the Bluetooth option was also a big plus.

I could've purchased a Bluetooth kit...and a NAV unit and just put them in the car...but it's nice having it integrated...

For me, going from a $40k Passat (POS) to a $23k Insight wasn't an impact either...so NAV was simply a nice to have. That being said, I'd do it again...I enjoy having it in the car.

Will I get the $ out of it come re-sale time, no way.

My wife's Insight EX has the nav system and it's nice and offers much more than just the GPS. The integrated bluetooth is a very valuable feature and it has voice control of the hvac system. I think there is more but I haven't studied the manual and I don't drive it much.
