Default upper back support....

OK, I am certain most of you love the lower lumbar support on the Insight, but due to having a back injury, it is painful to drive for longer than 30-35 minutes. Is there anything out there that can flatten out the back support on the driver's seat? The past few cars i've owned had bucket seats and didn't have any issues.

Could it actually be the headrest that's causing your problem? It juts forward a little bit as part of the Active Head Restraint system.

Thumbs down Headrest

The headrest is horrible. Don't know why car companies and airlines think pushing your head forward is comfortable. I get a headache from it. On my daughter's civic I turned it around, but this has much more of an angle and doesn't work well turned. Any suggestions ? Can it be replaced ?

It's not about comfort. It's about minimizing head movement in the event of an accident (okay, I guess it is about comfort -not having whiplash, at least).

Just test drove a Insight for the first time last night, I did like the car and want one. The one thing I felt I did not like as soon as I sat in the car was the huge unadjustable lumber in my lower back. Maybe it will get softer as the seat ages and I get fat and squeez it somemore. But initially it was a shock. Wish they put the civic seat in the insight!

Default Honda Seats

My daughter has the civic - those seats aren't great either. I have to say that is my only complaint about Hondas. Have had Nissan and Pontiac - very comfortable seats. Still wondering if there is a replace head rest so my head isn't pushed forward all the time.

The I2 head rests are not comfortable, but I think they are part of the overall package that helps the I2 get a good rating in rear impact crash tests from the IIHS. Volvo has used headrests of similar shape (and similar discomfort) for a long time.

For me, the headrest comfort level is improved if I lean the seat back slightly more than I would normally.

Purchased the car last night & absolutely love it so far, but yes the seat is terrible. They had the right idea by providing lumbar support, but the head rest and upper seat cause the spine to flex forward completing defeating the purpose of having the lumbar support. The seat forces the back into a C, which is terrible for the back, neck, shoulder and hip. I went on a 40 min drive and hip pain started to flare after 20 min, which for me I know is related to poor spinal posture.

What I did to give instant relief was fold up my sweatshirt & put it behind my midback, which helped extend the spine into the natural position. Also I flipped around the horrible neck rest.

Try this method, & if it works you can purchase a lumbar or McKenzie roll. Anything to help keep your back straight instead of flexed.
