Both of you were taken for a ride. The engine uses the same little blue filter as quite a few of them do and 0w20 oil. My dealer charged like 36 bucks for a change and last change I used mobile1 0w20 advance fuel economy.

your dealer charged you $150 for an oil change w/filter?

That is completely insane.

$40 doesn't sound ridiculous. It does use 0w-20 oil, which is often more expensive than other weights.

Just keep in mind some places may not want to change oil in a hybrid as they must leave the keys inside the vehicle. THis was per a friend I have who worked at jiffey lube. Seems the prius can startup without notice if the keys are in it.

So does anybody use synthetic oil?

What are the recommended oil change intervals for the Insight? Mine hasn't come in yet. My dealer emailed me and said he has a reference number from Honda in Japan but not a production estimate yet.

The book says when the change oil indicator lights up on the dash. Depending on your driving style, 10 thousand miles or more.

Those of us who service out cars feel 7500 is a good starting point.

Ive used Honda brand and mobile 1. THe engine seems a tad quieter.
0w20 mobile 1 advance fuel economy, using Honda filters.
