what kind of oil are most using ? i went to the dealer the other day and they wanted 40 to change the oil because they said it needed a special oil . when i bought the car i asked about oilchanges and they said it wasnt anything different than any other honda. hopfully its just that dealer trying to get more money.
wen i went for my service they charged me 150 for everythin including oil change and they told me "it was xpensive cause the new insight was different ( more special = more money )"
but people here are tellin me they overcharged me
dont make the same mistake i made by payin them a lot of money
just do reseach or go to other places
Both of you were taken for a ride. The engine uses the same little blue filter as quite a few of them do and 0w20 oil. My dealer charged like 36 bucks for a change and last change I used mobile1 0w20 advance fuel economy.

your dealer charged you $150 for an oil change w/filter?
That is completely insane.
$40 doesn't sound ridiculous. It does use 0w-20 oil, which is often more expensive than other weights.

Just keep in mind some places may not want to change oil in a hybrid as they must leave the keys inside the vehicle. THis was per a friend I have who worked at jiffey lube. Seems the prius can startup without notice if the keys are in it.

What are the recommended oil change intervals for the Insight? Mine hasn't come in yet. My dealer emailed me and said he has a reference number from Honda in Japan but not a production estimate yet.
