I brought my car in for the B1 maintenance, and was told that my front tires were 7s, but my back tires were 5s. What does that mean exactly? The service person made it sound like I would need new tires soon. I was thinking I'd get like 5 years out of these tires. Do LRR tires wear much faster? Has anyone else been told this?

You should get 40000 to 60000 miles out of your tires for all season radials. (typically)
The dealer should rotate them for every checkup.
Usually tires with a soft compound wear out quickly. Typically these are tires found on sportier cars because the soft compound provides more grip. On the Insight I would expect to get the average wear above provided the tires are rotated.
Take a penny and put it in the tires tread pattern. When you see the top of Lincoln's head its time to change tires for new.

My guess is that he means in a rating out of 10....Your fronts are 7 out of 10 and the rears are 5 out of 10.....What I do not know if he means that 10 indicates new or it will fail inspection when it reaches 10. So it is hard to determine the fronts being 70% (either worn or good).....
The rears are easy since they are 50% so worn or good don't really matter (50% worn or 50% good = the same thing).

A new tire usually has around 10/32" of tread. Some have less, some more. The minimum legal tread depth is 2/32", this is where the raised wear bars are at.
I don't know the orginal depth of these tires, if you've never rotated them and the back ones are at 7/32" of an inch, that's probably the initial depth because the tires on the rear wheels don't really wear out unless you are cornering very aggresively or have a rear wheel drive car.
Sounds like your tires are just fine to me. I drive until they get to 2/32" and rotate them on a consistent interval so that they get even wear so I can replace all 4 at the same time.

Oh, OK. Good to know. It's only been in for the A1 (that's the first time the maintenance light goes off, right?) servicing before, and I can't remember if they rotate the tires on that one or not. I suppose whether it means tire depth or out of 10, neither would really mean I needed new tires soon.

b1? I have almost 30 thousand and have not had any messages. I change oil at 30% and changed the cvt fluid a little after 17 thousand.
Yeah, I think they are using the tread depth guage. I d say you need at least a 2 of 10 to pass a state inspection, so your are fine. I have the dunlop MS tires and they are softer and do wear a little faster. I love these tires, no compliants here. No problems on ice, snow or lots and lots of water.

The message appears on the MID when you get down to 15%. If you changed your oil at 30% and reset the % to 100, it's probably why you haven't seen the service message.
Ah.... I assumed that would pop up anyway if you did the oil change reset. The manual says you need the dealer to reset the other service indicators and the oil change is the only user resettable one.
