Default high pitch sound

ok so we all know that our cars are having a high pitch sound. my friends can hear the sound too when they sit in the back seat (maybe not some of the older people), im not sure exactly when or why the that sound is there but is there anything we can do about it? i mean i can even hear it when im listening to music sometimes, and i dont wanna be blasting my music all the time. and sometimes there are situations when i cant be listening to music, and the sound is just constantly annoying the crap out of me.

can we complain to honda? get like a credit? or have honda do like a study on it, seeing how alot of people on these forums are having the same troubles. i dont know what to do. i mean i dont want to sell it and lose alot of money. if i knew this car had this high pitch sound i would of have bought a civic or something.

How loud is it? I'm actually curious to know how many of us actually hear it. I'm 25 and I don't hear it. I don't have any hearing problems, so I wonder if it definitely is in every car?

It does sound like a fairly common problem - I'm under 30, but I'm just not a good judge of it since as I mentioned in another thread I have tinnitus, so any high pitched sound is likely to be masked by that.

That being said, I've had people in my car ranging in age from 12 to 60, and no one has said anything yet. When my little brother and sister visit next week, I'll ask them to keep an ear out for it since they probably have better hearing than I.

Not that I would have the slightest clue as to what's causing it, but out of curiosity, is the problem intermittent or continuous? Does it get better or worse under certain conditions? For example, does it coincide with times of heavy assist or regen? Not likely, but as these cars seem to be affected a little more by cold weather than others, is there a correlation there? There are other variables you can try to rule out like ECON on or off, in Drive versus Sport, A/C on or off, etc.

At the very least, you should take it in to a dealer and have them take a listen. If the first guy doesn't hear it, maybe just politely ask if there is a younger employee who might be able to have a listen. Also, I don't know any mechanics, but I can't imagine it's particularly quiet back in their shop, so they may not be the best candidates to listen to it

LOL Actually, I thought I heard some sort of faint whine while driving at lunch today, but it was barely perceptible, even with the stereo off, a/c off, windows up, and low road noise (was only going about 30 on a quiet residential street). Either my hearing is worse than suspected, or that's probably not the noise you all hear

Default Whine whine

I keep hearing imaginary police sirens about once a day.
Is that what this whine sounds like?

. . .
I didn't know what it was until I went to the doctor. I have tinnitius too. Its kind of like a high pitch dog-whistle that is going ALL THE DAMN TIME! I have learned to ignore it, but at first I read a lot of stuff about it and found some people almost go crazy from it.

Anyway, I can't believe that you have it too and you're so young. I didn't get it until after I turned 50.

I had my hearing tested and it's still perfect (I can detect all frequencies and volumes). Many people get this after listening to too many rock concerts.

Some of my friends used to have a thing in front of their house that made a loud screeching sound. I asked what it was and they said that it was to keep cats away. They said most people can't hear it (usually older people) but I can hear it.

I dont hear it all the time, its like under certain conditions. For me it is almost like its coming from the spare tire area. I hear it most at 35mph with 2 bars of assist or 2 bars of regen. Outside of that, I do not hear it.

When I used a wheelchair to get around the model I had used 4 pole motors and a pulse width modulator speed controller, something unheard of for a wheelchair at that time and very efficient.

Problem was, in quite environments you can hear the different tones of the pulses going through the motors and it was amplified through the gear boxes.

I specifically shut everything off to try to hear it, and I think I heard what you are talking about, but not what others seem to hear.
