That is terrible. I waited from 3/30 to 8/2 to get my car.

Did they give you a loaner to use?

I love rental cars!!!! But I see what you mean. Interesting the fit air bag wont fit since so much of that car is in the insight. Myonly other advice is to try smartmilesusa.com he sells used hybrid parts.

It's always sad to see a honda smashed up like that. Hope it gets fully repaired, I had a similar crash where my car got jacked up in the rear by an old toyota. My rear was completed destroyed yet her car had nothing damaged with it. That's what happens when cars are made lighter using lighter metals. They will still protect you with the unibody structure but your car will dent easy..

Well after 1 month and 10 days, my insight is finally ready! I am so sick and tired of driving these rentals, enterprise can seriously shove these cars where the sun doesn't shine. Will post updated pics when I get it back.

Default Curtain airbag

I am cuttently rebuilding a crashed insight, making one good one out of two wrecks. I have a good curtain airbag that I could send you out today if you are interested.

Unhappy First Accident in my 3 month old Insight...seems like I wasn't the only one

I guess my accident 2 days ago fit this thread.
First accident in my 3 month old insight.

I was trying to make a U-turn and this lady came and hit me from the back.
The right back corner of my car was severely damaged. I think the lady hit me at 35~40MPH while i was starting to make a turn.

After the accident, my bumper (scratch and cracked a bit) came off. Looks pretty decent from the outside. I could not see the internal damage but on my panel, IMA and the battery symbol was on. The message warned me about checking the IMA system and charging system. Basically, the IMA was offline and the car was not even charging the smaller car battery.

The bad luck was, I was trying to make a illegal turning during midnight and got hit. So, the case is against me and I am worried if my insurance will reimburse in full.

Anyway, come back to the Q.
Do you think there is any serious "internal damage" to the battery/electric motor/IMA computer system in my car?
I am not worried about the body works but the internal computer system worries me.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you are ok.

There is a switch you likely need to flip to turn the ima back on. I believe it is sensitive to g's and flips off for safety reasons from a hard hit.

Thanks Cobb... That was really great to hear. Put my heart at ease for the time being.

I enjoyed the Insight very much but since this is my first accident with it, the hit in the rear which causes IMA to fail and battery charging to go hay-wired really freaked me out.

Hope you are right about the IMA. The car is at the workshop now and hope it can be fixed as soon as possible (missing it already ).

If you do not mind me asking, do you think you could of done anything or was it something with the car that caused the accident? I see a lot of insights that have front end damage like they rear ended someone. Then I see 1 out of ten that has rear end damage.

I use to coast, but now apply enough pressure to teh brakes so the light comes on and get more regen when slowing down and recharging the IMA battery. I got a hitch to help beef up the backside just incase that happens to me. Of course going the post limit in the right lane I am use to seeing some fly up behind me, then move over to another lane and go around.
