Hi Cobb,

There wasn't anything wrong with the car. I think the driver behind be was driving too fast to responds when I slowed for a turn.

The only thing I can hope for is that there is no grave damage to the IMA system in the rear.

Unhappy Battery cooling fan damaged, no stock. Add alternator to charge 12V battery?

Hey Cobb and everyone who is interested to know,

We have found out the problem. The impact was so great at it damaged the interior plastics and broke the fan which is supposed to cool the battery.

So, without the fan, the IMA disabled itself. The good news is, after replacing the fan, everything will be fine. (Body works was simple.)

HOWEVER, because I live in Malaysia and Insight is relatively new here. They have problem finding parts. With all the flooding which was going around Thailand and radiation in Japan, my car is sleeping in the "hospital" pending for its "organ transplant".

I found in another website that the car can operate without the IMA, we just need to add an alternator to the car. I am relunctant to do any modification of that kind to my 3 months old Insight.

Regards,

I enjoyed the Insight very much but since this is my first accident with it, the hit in the rear which causes IMA to fail and battery charging to go hay-wired really freaked me out.

Hope you are right about the IMA. The car is at the workshop now and hope it can be fixed as soon as possible (missing it already ).

Whatever site you visited about the alternator is "dumb". Search here at ICN for all the "real world" suggestions.

I wonder if disconnecting all the wires to the BCM will do the same as for the g1 in allowing the dc to dc converter to still work? Mike DB2K has a photo of the inside of the newer IMA box.

The blower is a small squirell cxage styly and should be rather generic. Ive seen some on ebay from time to time.
