Interesting story, I know some people that are full of hot air and could go a long way without stopping! A guy I work with has a diesel truck and is now making Bio-diesel fuel at home for about two dollars a gallon. The truck smells like french fries everytime he starts it up to leave, which is better then paying 4.30 per gallon for plain diesel fuel I guess. It may cost $2 to make now, but if you factor in the cost of labor at a prevailing wage, it costs closer to $10/gallon. (I've been reading a biodiesel hobbyist forum.) Plus waste cooking oil is harder and harder to find for cheap these days, and you are often competing with large biodiesel contractors.
