Default How Long Will the Hybrid Batter Last?

I was wondering how long will our hybrid batteries last? What is the cost to replace them?

The battery assembly is around $3500 plus labor. Warranty is 8/80 or 10/150 depending on the state you live in or bought the car in. The IMA system is designed to make that battery last as long as possible. If the battery went bad and you didn't want to replace it, rice the car out. Lower it, put a sewer pipe exhaust on and run it with just the engine.

Its 84 D cell nickle metal batteries that make up our pacls. If a few go bad, they can be replaced. One bad apple or cell does spoil the whole bunch.

Must like with tradiational 12 volt car batteries. Never does the whole battery go bad, just a cell or 2, but since they are made together we toss them for a whole new one.

i'm surprised nobody mentioned one of the site vendors, hybridbatteryrepair.com. i think they would rebuild it for a lot less than dealer costs.

Hmph. The dealership told me they were $1500. They lied? (gasp). Of course this is when I was going through the purchase process...

I could be wrong. Alldata shows a price of $3250 for the Civic battery. They don't show a price for the Insight 2 batterys. So, maybe $1500 is correct, although I doubt it.

As everybody has already noticed, the IMA is very greedy when the charge gets below 40/30% because the battery stays healthy longer if it is partially charged.

I wonder if a code will apear when your battery needs serviced like an oil change.

I am sure its like the other Hondas. You get a code, the IMA shuts down, etc. From what Ive read in the other forum many of the codes and IMA lights are fixed by just balancing the pack. Some show a computer failed.

I hope by time I need service Peter and Ron have compared notes and offers a lithium replacement option. At least the crz uses the same voltage, so maybe we will have spare parts for some time?
