Default Insight and kids (car size considerations)

It is about time to replace my wife's car, and we are consider an Insight as a possible option. However, we are somewhat worried that it might be a little too small for our needs.

Would you recommend an insight for a family of 4, with one child in a car seat, and the other in elementary school?

Also, what are your thoughts on the size of the trunk?

Thanks for the help.

This was a huge concern for me. Nothing can bolster confidence is this car having enough room for your family than bringing them all for a nice test drive, but I can share with you my observations.
I have a 2 1/2 year old and a six month old. There is more room in this vehicle than there was in our Subaru forester.
I put my son in a forward facing car seat behind me (driving). I have the drivers seat all the way down, and all the way back becaus I am 6'-1" tall- plenty of room for him. I put my six month old behind passenger seat in rear facing cat seat. The passenger seat has to be pulled up part way to accommodate this.
Trunk/hatch has a bunch of room. I personally rate this car an A+ for interior room and trunk space for a compact car.
Good luck!

I should be clear- compared to the Subaru there is more room for the driver and passengers- subura had more trunk space.

Just drove home 50 miles from Lowes. Bought a new lawn mower with all 4 of us for the ride. Had one of my kids sit on top of the larger fold-forward rear seat section.

He said it was comfortable.

We all (family of 4) feel very comfortable in our I2. 2 kid's seats in the back, baby 4-wheeler court in the trunk, a 12er bicycle with assist. wheels for the older kid, loads of handbags and parafernalia also in the trunk.
No prob.

unless you have baby linebackers the car seems eminently practical for a small family ... i'm guessing around the time the little ones hit jr. high you should think about new wheels

2 teens no problems, its not ideal my son is getting there for head room but I love the size of the trunk area.

Family of four here with a 2010, no problem. I wouldn't worry about the size until you have a couple of teens sitting in the back. I'm not a tall man at 5' 6" and this is the first car I have ever sat in the back of and my head hits the roof. Other than that should be perfectly fine for a young family of four.

We also have a 2011 Subaru Outback for the weekends so the Insight isn't the car we normally all cram into, but it can handle it when we need it to if that makes sense.

I have two girls a 11 and 8 year old. Picking them up from school is a breeze with their backpacks and other items, however we also have a Odyssey van. Even though it's a huge difference in size you really see the luxury in the additional interior volume a larger car would provide. If your family drives around a lot on weekends or on road trips I know it would work however the additional room makes it so much more comfortable. Plenty of trunk room for the road trip or runs to costco with the fam.

the new lexus ct200h looks like a nice compromise bw greater hauling capacity (and a growing family) and mpg ... it is however 30 large
