Default Rear Speakers?

Hi. I just purchased my new 2011 Honda Insight. I got the base model, so only the two front door speakers work, but I noticed the speakers still exist on the rear doors. Is there a way to activate them? I haven't done much work installing speaker systems, so how difficult is it to make modifications and upgrades on Insight?

Thanks for all your help.

Id start by adjusting the head unit to front/rear and see if you can get any sound first. Id take it to the dealer if not. THe only diff between the models is the additional tweets in the dash board next to the windshield.

They take a 6 1/2 inch speakers and they are plentyful. I like Kenwood kfc series myself.

I'm thinking of some major ICE work over the next few weekends (once I'm man enough to embrace a warranty void ....

1) will bring over my Pegasus 4-channel amp, perhaps mount it under the front passenger seats
2) replace the stock 2-ways (4pcs) and the 2 front tweeters
3) i'd keep the HU. it looks good and works for me

Am just worried my dealer won't have a clue how to tear out a stock HU (Insights just hit the local market in Malaysia)... and risk scratching the dash... or worse...

Its easy, there is a 10mm bolt you access from the bottom of the dash center. The stock head unit is a clarion. Its ok, replacing the speakers will make the best improvement.

yeah, agree on replacing stock speakers first. I'd add a 4-channel amp though... just for that extra bit of ooomph.

Interesting to know the HU's a Clarion... the past 2 local cars I owned had stock Clarions too. Must be an Asian automaker thing

Are the speakers really there?

In this post some said that the wiring is there, but the speakers are missing.
It sounded like just installing speakers that fit the mountings will work. And maybe you just need to remove the door panels....

Has anyone done this? Taken pics?

I just mounted a couple of 6.5 inch subs. The wiring and hole were there. Just no speakers.

I don't like mids and highs coming from behind me. But maybe that is just me.

Oops, wrong generation...
