Smile WOO HOO!!! New 2011 White Insight

So first of all let me say I love our new Insight. This is my first honda. I have had several piece of crap fords that dropped trannys, motors, and rear diffs. So I bought a Nissan titan, and still have it, and Love it... But, gas is 3.60 here and at 16 mpg it hurts!!! I bought this car and it will pay the payment and gas on the insight for what the gas on the truck is costing, we live in NE okla and drive 25k miles a year. Like everyone else I looked at the prius (My uncle is a toyota Gen Manager, boy was he dissappointed lol) and the price on the ex compared to the level 3 prius is about $7k diff. WOW!! So after a couple weeks of looking for a white lx or ex, I just about gave up and bought the civic ex, but this one showed up the day we went to buy civic, on good friday!!! I also had a great buying experience, it took less than an hour and a half from showing up to driving off. GO JOE MARINA in tulsa, ok!!!!! It was the least painful auto purchase I have ever had..... btw one of my coworkers bought a 2011 base insight 2 weeks ago, and he has about 1k miles and is averaging 48mpg.

So, after the first weekend and the first fillup, we have 362 miles at 43.7mpg, but this weekend in okla we have had 40mph winds and extremely heavy rainfall, so I attribute the poor mpg( I know, POOR???) to the weather. I can not wait till the weather takes a break so I can see what the real mpg will be.

I do have a few gripes as a new owner, where is the push button start?
Only One 12v power outlet? really????
Extreme poor vision out the rear sides and back.
It was only 53 degrees this weekend and got the cold temp light???
Instead of rolling the roof line down at the doors, why not keep it flat so us tall people do not bang our heads...

Over all I LOVE the car, this is my wife's primary car. Btw we only drive white vehicles, our 450' gravel driveway will make a darker vehicle look nasty quick. And I think with the tint they look sharp

So the first upgrades MUST be bluetooth, probably go with the bury although I like the advent with honda switch. And we will Tint the 11 windows. Oh and can not go with out the 6000k hid lights, have the 55w 6000k in my titan and it is like daylight, I get flashed during the day when they are on...

I look forward to learning from the more experienced drivers for the best mpg.

I would agree that I've noticed gas mileage is about 5 mpg worse in the rain. I think this is due to the headlights and wipers using a lot of electricity.

The snowflake icon is not an indication of outside temperature. It's an indication of coolant temperature. So the snowflake comes on when the engine is started cold because the coolant is at ambient temperature and not optimal temperature.

My first tank was in 41 mpg range. Improved with every tank, until last tank finally broke 50 mpg. I know part of this is because the car has taught me how to drive greener, but I think it is also at least partly due to engine break-in and maybe warmer weather. Bottom line: I bet your mileage improves significantly.

My first tank was 47mpg, not bad, also high winds, this was last Friday... now I'm getting 48mpg, and pretty much staying there not going up or down, hopefully I go above 50mpg!

It's good that you got the car you originally wanted and didn't have to settle.

Push button start is a Prius Gen 2 and beyond thing. Ford and Hyundai have also picked up on it for the cars targeted to first time new car buyers and the youth market.

The cold temp light is because the car doesn't have a temperature gauge and its letting you know the engine is cold.

Rolling the roof line down was probably something done to improve crash safety, I've noticed more and more cars are doing it for the purpose of improving rollover survival.

fully agree with ya on rear visibility - it's crap looking out the back window. i often find myself guiding my IN2 gingerly out of reverse parking slots using my side mirrors instead (which are thankfully large).

One thing I really think sucks about this car is the steering wheel design. I tend to grab the wheel at about 9 and 3 o'clock when i drive this car. At least for my hands, my thumbs dig into the wheel right where the side spokes attach to the rim, and it becomes painful after a while. Not to mention they used the cheapest Dodge Caliber-like material to make the steering wheel, so my hands get sweaty and uncomfortable!

Oh yeah, and the ergonomics on the base stereo are terrible! I can barely reach the radio knobs/buttons without leaning forward and stretching my arms out all the way!
