I currently have a 2007 Civic si sedan and a 2010 Fit auto, but I have been thinking to purchase an Insight to replace my Si because of the high gas price($4.79 in CA). The only reason I am still frustrating with the buying decision is that I might regret for getting rid of my Si for the manual transmission and performance aspect. Since the Fit is an auto already, I might get bored for getting another auto. (Reason I bought the Fit with auto was for my wife! But turns out she is not driving much anyways.) At first, I choose the Fit instead of the Insight is because I like the car is more unique and sitting on the Fit can look better. Overall, i am a little sad that the Fit doesn't get good gas mileage in city driving. It would be nice to own an Insight for able to get 40+ city driving. Now, I am hoping someone can share some similar experience. What would you pick if you are in my situation?
Basically, for your own reasons, the Fit has to go.
You're probably going to be pissed with yourself if you drop the Civic according to what you wrote.
The Insight is a good Fit replacement. Think of it as upgrading, keep the Civic, win/win. Drive the Civic on those days you got some spare pocket change. Heh.

In the really big world of cars, the Civic si isn't really a gas hog. The driver can have a huge affect on the bottom line. If you drive it sporty, it's gonna cost you. I stongly suspect that you could get much worse than advertised mileage in the Insight if you wanted to...and it would still be a pig compared to the sporty Civic.
Have you thought about the Honda CRZ? Maybe trade both cars in for a CRZ and an Insight?
i'd get rid of the civic. get rid of a 2010 car and you will take a financial bath plus the fit will be reliable. manual transmission and performance ? rent a car at the local track if you want performance. its better than getting dinged with five buck a gallon gas.
BTW, the insight is not an auto -- its a CVT. it feels different (no gears, smooth power band) than a geared car with an auto.

The reason the Si is getting around 18 -22 MPG is due to most of my commute is all city driving. I rarely hit the vtec and drive very mature without pushing the car too hard. For the CRZ, it won't suitable for me because I have kid. I wish it comes out with a back seat like the UK / Japan version. However, the CRZ is still disappointed with 35 - 40 MPG for a hybrid compared to an Insight which is much ideal. I wish the Insight will come out the 5-speed manual. If that is the case, I think my problem solved.

You are absolutely right about the Insight has a CVT; not auto. Anyways, I like to have more control of the car and this is why I enjoy in manual more than auto. Almost all my previous cars are all manual; such as Mr2, civic si, miata and evo etc... I bought the Fit for auto due to my wife wants to drive it. But it turns out that I won't let her to drive it because I don't want her to damage it when the car is still brand new.

This. The Insight may save you a bit over the Fit but there's no guarantee you'll get 40mpg in city. And it'll take very long to recoup your costs if ever.
I can't believe people trade newish cars that allready get 28+ mpgs for something that gets 38-40 ish.
Everyone's reasons and finances vary but I would not have dumped any car I had that allready got decent milage just for the sake of.
We got rid of our '08 Mercedes R350 (It's a big wagon, suv thing) V6+premium fuel, with a best fuel economy of 18 mpg hwy. This is why we ended up with our Insight and the difference in economy is huge. Because we still needed a large car 2 kiddies, we recently aquired a new Subaru Outback 4-cyl, CVT even it gets 31 mpg on the hwy which is very good for something almost the size of a Ford Explorer inside. I would not trade that car even if gas was $6/ gallon, just drive it less.

Anyway, as an underinformed outsider, I'd say keep it the way it is. You have very practial performance in the Si, and a good all around new car. I can't imagine that you would ever make up the loss if you trade the Fit. Get rid of the Si and you are stuck with two underpowered cars that you can't shift or pass in traffic without planning well ahead.
...since you asked.

OK, I am going to try to save you alot of trouble here if you just pay attention to what I am about to tell you.
You sound alot like me. I got the Insight to replace my 2003 Civic EX MANUAL. I love manual transmissions and was disappointed that I had to get a CVT when I got my Insight. The Insight is a great car, it gets great gas mileage, it has great cargo hauling capabilities, it is solidly reliable, BUT the CVT drives me NUTS!! If you are anything like me (and it sounds like you are) you will sorely miss having a manual transmission car around. The CVT is slightly better than a regular automatic but if you like a manual then you will miss the control and fun of driving one.
I had a manual transmission Tacoma and found myself driving that when I didn't need to just to drive a manual transmission again. Then gas prices spiked and it was getting to be a problem. SO I recently traded the Tacoma in on a 2007 Fit Sport with a manual transmission. I now drive the Fit almost exclusively and my fiancee drives the Insight.
So if I were in your situation, knowing what I know now I would either:
A. Keep what you have now.
B. Trade the Fit in on an Insight and keep the Si for your own sanity.
