Default Hail of death

So I got caught in a hailstorm a week or two ago. Sounded like rocks pelting me, but when I gave it a cursory look later I didn't really notice anything. That is until I took it in to get detailed and the guy pointed out a couple small dents. After that I noticed a lot more, and took it in to get an estimate today thinking it would be about $225. Try $1,500. The hail couldn't have even been that big (I live in upstate NY, we don't get that golf-ball sized midwest garbage). Anyone else had this happen to them?

Happens all the time all over the country.

I would say you got off light with a $1500 bill. It can pretty easily total some cars if the hail is big enough.

Doesn't surprise me a bit. The roof of the insight is the thinnest of any car I've ever had. I have to be careful how much pressure I put on the roof when I remove car wax.

Tell me about it! I don't think anyone else I work with has any problems. (then again I have the newest car at the office so I'm probably the only one who gives a damn).

I'm just hoping the claims adjustor doesn't try and dispute what the detailers said. My Insight's white so you really have to get it in the right light to see these suckers.

Paintless dent repair. Why do people go to traditional body shops to get their roofs and trunks pounded out and repainted when paintless dent repair specialists can get it out for a fraction of the cost?

If it's just two dents, it shouldn't cost you more than $150, and result will come out better than a repaint. No more than a thousand dollars if you have more than that!

They are doing paintless dent repair. And it's a little more than two dents.

Here's what they found on my roof alone.

Hahaha, sorry I guess I should have mentioned they took pictures for the insurance company with a grease pencil. You wouldn't be able to see much in a photo otherwise.

The Insight's roof is very thin like caedward said. When I'm buffing out the roof while detailing I have to be mindful of how much pressure I apply with my hand otherwise the dang thing wants to bow.

That said, mine came with two indentations from the dealership and my I2 came with 1 mile on it and was on the dealers lot less than 24 hours. These indentations are toward the front windshield on each side on and you need the roof clean as can be and looking at the right angle to see them.

Hmmmm... I stand corrected! Did not mean you accuse you of being stupid!

I would just have them do the big dents, many of them are probably too small to be noticed/seen. Should save some cash!
