Default Touching-up paint nicks

So while I'm "spring-cleaning" my car I figured I should touch-up the paint nicks I've accumulated over the last year from various things on the road. Mostly on the front-end. My question is more about technique - do you guys fix these up yourself? What is your process? This would be my first time doing it but I've got a plan based on this: Auto Detailing: Secrets Of The Experts

I bought a bottle of Honda's touch-up paint (spectrum white pearl) and ordered a fiberglass pen to sand out any rust from the nicks before I apply the paint. My question is, since the nicks are so small, do I need to worry about sanding/applying clearcoat? Seems a bit overkill to me since most of them aren't even noticeable from a few feet away. I feel like I have a pretty steady hand and if I just use one of my little model brushes I'll be fine just filling them in. Attached a couple pics so you can see - in the second even though it's small you can clearly see it's a little rusted.

Wow, that looks like rust. If you paint over rust it will just come back. My dings like that are not that deep and are pink. Id cut a small hole in a piece of paper so you only treat that area.

That's a good idea, I'll give it a shot. I'm hoping the fiberglass pen will take care of all the rust... I was a modeling hobbyist for years and am a graphic artist now so I'm hoping my fine motor skills will serve me well.
