Default Dealers not adding accessory cruise to 2011 Base

I just purchased a 2011 base model and like the vehicle. Not realizing the cruise absence, I drove the car off in a happy hybrid bliss. How are we supposed to get cruise control on these base units? Anyone know of third parties adding this accessory? Any and all info would be much appreciated!

This probably doesn't help you but back in 2007 I bought a brand new base model Tacoma. The dealer said cruise could not be added to the truck, but after reading on a Tacoma forum like this site for our Insight I learned all I needed to do was buy a $70 dollar cruise stalk and set aside 5 min for the install, basically all the wiring was there I simply needed to just pull a little plastic cover off the steering wheel attatch the plug for the cruise stalk and screw two screws behind the plastic cover. It worked perfectly which made me wonder why it wasn't standard given the price for the part.

I did the EXACT same thing you did Bruiser when I bought my 2011 a couple weeks ago. I even remember saying to the dealer when I was looking at another car "the main things I want are gas mileage, AC and Cruise". Then I drive away without cruise...

I heard other people talking about Toyota vehicles having the harness and just need the stalk or rigging some buttons to the connector. I don't know if this is the same for Honda, but there is an after-market cruise control made by Rostra that they claim will work.

anyway.. there is another post about cruise here: Rostra Cruise Control Kit

I hope that helps.. if anyone finds that it is just a matter of finding the connector/pinout thats great as well, but I'm not holding my breath on it as I have dug around online a lot and not found anything. Also, on 2011 I think the normal location for the buttons is on the steering wheel.

To my knowledge there are ways of installing an aftermarket cruise controll. The components may not be there, but I've heard of shops installing it to cars that have absolutely no cruise-related parts installed.

My Honda dealer had an after market cruise control put on for me at a cost of 469.00 installed. I always thought I "had" to have cruise, but since I got this car a month ago I have not used it due to the fact you can get better mileage without it. Try it and you will see what I mean. So far loving this car and getting over 50 MPG! Enjoy your new Insight Base.
