Unhappy I need help bumper

Ok, so I got my new 2011 insight for only 2 weeks and it was rear ended today while I was waiting for the traffic light.

Now my rear bumper was broken and the right side came off. The driver that hit me wanted to sort things out without insurance involved because she said she worked at a Honda too so it's cheaper for her.

What should I do? How much money should I ask so I don't get cheated?

The color of the insight is blue too painted in japan. Will it have effect on the paints if they needed to paint the bumper?

Hope you got a police report.

I've been screwed twice without a police report.

Next time I'm in an accident, I'm leaving it in the street until the cops show up. I don't give a damn about "if no injury please move automobile to side" or whatever, I'll do it when instructed by an officer on the scene. More people yelling move it will just help my cause to get the authorities involved.

Regardless it needs inspected by a body shop to ensure the frame isn't messed up, if it is, could be totaled - you just don't know, need to get it checked out.

Hope things check out. Basically you have a brand spanking new car that aught to be returned to the condition it was prior to the accident.

Maybe you'll luck out and she will use some inside ties through the dealer to get you hooked up with one of their recommended body shops ... but still, I'd feel a lot better with a police report.

You'll basically need an entire new rear bumper assembly at a base minimum. There's foam in there, it's damaged. Likely the steel in the bumper reinforcement bar is damaged. The skin is evidently damaged. Maybe the bolts attached to the frame are damaged. Perhaps the frame is damaged at those bolt points, too. Just because you can't see it don't mean it isn't any truer until properly inspected.

The car being so new, any paint work on a bumper skin should not be an issue regarding color matching. But this is beyond just respraying the bumper skin.

Hope all goes well.

I wouldn't purposely leave your car in the road to obstruct traffic, but I would at least try to snap several photos before moving the vehicles. I guess you live in West Virginia though, so there is not much traffic to obstruct.

If you tried this in DC, it would be like a terrorist attack on the road!

As for the OP, I think you have put yourself in a very bad position if you didn't get a police report. I hope you took photos. My girlfriend got in a multi-vehicle pileup (30+ vehicles) and she took photos AND got a police report. This was two weeks ago, and the insurance companies STILL haven't figured it out, and the person who hit her is still refusing liability.

Obviously you need to take it to a body shop (a good one) ASAP and get an estimate. There may be frame damage.

Ive been through wv a few times and there is intelligent modern society like the rest of the country. Sure they have the lower income area, like all cities.

If its just the bumper, that can be easily replaced and they come prepainted. I am worried that maybe something under it got damaged. I think having a shop check it out is a good idea. Now if its a tap and you see no damage I can see letting them go.
