Hi, and welcome to the forum...

I hadn't looked at the base Insight, so don't know exactly what it's list price or dealer cost are. What part of the country are you in, as that can factor into the pricing? My gut feeling is, if you like the car and want to save a boat load of money on gas, grab it. I'm not sure if production has resumed in Japan on the vehicle, and they are starting to sell better with the higher fuel costs. It might be several months before post-tsunami Insights arrive to replace the dwindling supply.

Had my EX w/o Nav for a little over a month, and really enjoy it. Various tanks of fuel have yielded: 45 mpg; 47 mpg and 48 mpg. Much better than the EPA results on the sticker, and not hard to achieve. It seems most people on the forum have similar results.

I bought my base insight for $18,133 with destination, but not including taxes and other fees, if that helps. Edmunds lists the "True Market Value" for my area at $18,739, so $700 under that seemed like a good deal to me (especially considering the good offer the dealer gave me on my trade-in).

A few months ago, you could have gotten a 2011 LX for that price. Then gas prices went up, and the tsunami happened. In March '11, I was getting quotes for like $16,800 (+ taxes, fees, etc.) for a base Insight.

I don't think that is a good deal for a base. If you have AAA or USAA, get quotes through their auto-buying services. Sure beats trying to haggle dealers down, especially when they fight back with bait and switch techniques!

And yes, it really depends where you're buying. What is sales tax there?

Dang, I just did a AAA quote today, the lowest I can find in this area (NOVA) is $18,116 + taxes and fees. Prices sure did shoot up quick!
