Default Do you recommend an extended warranty for the 2011 Insight

Hello. I have a deposit on a 2011 base model Insight that is supposed to be built this week and I am supposed to see it early July. I have been lurking around this site for the last several weeks and it is satisfying that so many owners seem to be satisfied. However, I did come across some references to concerns about the CVT. Thus my question. Should I be considering some type of extended warranty? Note that I never normally buy them as I view them as a waste of money and I am buying a Honda in part because of its reputation for reliability. But if there is a concern about the transmission then I would like to know as the best time to buy an extended warranty is at the time of sale. Thoughts anyone? Thanks.

Default Extended warranty

I switched to Geico insurance with my new base insight. They offer an extended waranty to 100,000 miles for really reasonable- $34 for 6 months. You have to buy this before 15k miles on your car but not untill then, so you do not need it right away. They also offer roadside help for really cheap. The insurance was less then Allstate which I had before.

Love my insight!!

Only problem is that I have become OCD trying to get the best mpg.

Thanks for the reply. I will have to check that out. Last time I checked out Geico they were more expensive than what I was paying. But that seems very reasonable. I will check that out!

We have had Geico Insurance for the past 8 years. When we got our new '11 Insight we also took the "extended warranty" clause. It is actually called Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (refered to as MBI) and it has a $250 deductable. Ours is $45 for 6 months. I feel very comfortable with this insurance.. I think ours is $45 premium because it includes the roadside assistance.

Just my humble 2 cents worth!

(We LOVE our Insight!!)

I did get a price from Geico and they are cheaper by about $4 per month. Not enough to switch in itself, but with the warranty protection I will be switching. Very reasonable.

One last question. How expensive relative to other vehicles is the Insight to insure?

I've been with GEICO for many years now. I went from a 2010 Honda CR-V to a 2011 Insight EX. Premium went from $665 a year to $622. Not a lot of savings, but at least it was a little less.

We went from a '05 Honda Element to the new 2011 Insight EX. Our premium went up by $125.00 a year. But, $90.00 of that is for the MBI insurance we opted for. (Otherwise it went up only $35.00 a year.) We were pleased with that!

I got my extended warranty with my dealer and part of the reason I took it was the fact that if I don't use it (anything that the standard warranty won't cover that it does (keys, dents, stuff like that) or anything that happens after the standard warranty is up), I get the premium back minus the deductible.

It'll take a couple months to get the check, but basically after I make my last payment, I get a big kickback if nothing goes wrong. Kinda felt like a no brainer to me.

I also got the extended warranty from my dealer that is fully refundable if I don't use it. I felt because of this Insight being a new model, that the extended warranty was a good idea.
