Unhappy Rear Window Spoiler Replacement

My 2010 Insight has a cracked rear window spoiler and reflector/brake light assembly. I have purchased replacement parts, but now I need some direction on how to remove the old spoiler. It appears that I will need to remove the tailgate interior trim panels. How do I get these off without damaging them? Are there step-by-step instructions on installing the new parts?

I doubt there are. This is the first time I've heard of one cracking. Was it in some sort of accident? If not, maybe it could be taken care of under warranty.

Sounds like something dropped on it, the balck piece is a seperate part than the brake lamp housing so I don't get why both parts would crack unless on purpose.

The spoiler and reflector/brake light assembly was cracked as a result of a hit-and-run driver. I managed to replace everything okay over the weekend. I had to pull off the interior trim to access the connector of the wire that provides power to the brake light. I pulled off the three trim pieces that covered the interior of the tailgate metal strip onto which the spoiler was mounted, including the cover over the rear wiper motor. It turned out that I only had to pull off the center trim piece. The trim pieces did not come off easily, and I ended up breaking two of the three plastic locking pins that held the center trim strip to the tailgate. At $3.78 per pin, it was a small price to pay for a successful spoiler replacement.

Glad you were able to fix it! How much did it set you back? (Other than the $3.78 per pin?)

Welcome aboard and glad to hear you were not hurt. I may need a spoiler too as mines is loose from all that loud rap music I play.

The total cost of the spoiler repair, including the black plastic spoiler, reflector strip with brake light, tax, and shipping was $301.00 using parts ordered from Honda Parts and Accessories (this is not a specific endorsement for this web site, but they had a good price, the order was accurate, and the parts were delivered pretty quickly).
