Default Base model or LX?

Hi all...
I don't have an I2 yet... but I made my decision to get one.

I was originally considering the Honda Fit... mainly because money, but like I said I have opted for the Insight!

Ok... but now the dilemma, should I get the base model? (no cruise control, 2 speakers only (really!), no usb interface)... or should I get the LX which includes all that? - the difference is about $1500, and like I said: money is an issue.

In other words.... have you got the base model? Do you regret getting it over the next trim (LX)? Should I spent those extra $1.5K for the LX... Or should I just use it for down payment and get the Base model?

Thanks!

I have a 2011 base model. You can hook up an MP3 player to the standard audio jack on the dash. I put in two rear speakers. The doors are already wired with connectors.

I bought floor mats from a dealer for about $100. You really don't need cruise control.

Save your $$$ and get the base model. I have no regrets buying one.

Thanks!!! that really helps me!
Yes, I can live without cruise, and could install speakers... plus mats can be bought even in autoparts stores for $.

I'm interested in hearing more details about this speaker install?... I read another post that said the speakers were there on the doors from factory, but there was no sound.

You saying that the wires get to the doors, but there is no speakers? correct?

Do you have the model, brand or size of the speakers that will fit the doors mounting points?

As I said above, the doors are prewired with connectors at the end of each wire. I can't be any more clearer than that. Yes, there are no rear speakers in the base model.

I bought Alpine 5 1/4' round speakers from Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, LCD TV, Digital Cameras. Mine were model SPR-13C that are being discontinued. You may find them somewhere. You also have to buy an adaptor kit that Crutchfield sells to mount the speakers in the holes in the doors. Most any 5 1/4 speaker will fit but you do need an adaptor kit.

It's worth investing in a shop manual to learn how to remove the door panels as it's not that simple to do. The info to order a shop manual is inside the Insight Owner's Manual.

Anyways.. thanks a lot for the tips, I think I'm gonna go for the base for sure.

I just last week took possession of a base model in red. It is not what I settled for, rather it is what I wanted. There wasn't anything on the LX model that I felt justified the surplus. I could get floor mats, a better radio, mud flaps and still be a 1000 dollars to the good.

I agree with Hybridnewguy I have a Black Base and it is what i want. I have a set of weathertech mats and i bought an alpine HU to upgrade the radio and i m getting some focal component speakers up front and i m sticking a pair of old Kove Audio speakers in the rear. Or u can get the Jensen VM9424 it has everything including Nav, ipod control, usb and even a sd card slot 2 gig max to play mp3s. They go for $369 on ebay. I have that HU in another car and it was a good HU no the most powerful but it worked well. I still would get a base over any other model. Thank you Honda!!!

After a lot of research, I bought a base model and have no regrets. Two speakers sound fine and I can add two rears for about $100.00. You could have a superior radio- bluetooth and with 4 speakers for around $500, installed with the custom faceplate. Also cruise control for about $350 installed. A armrest, Honda, can be had for about $150. It does not look hard to install. By getting the base, you could add any of these you want and still come out better. I am getting about 44 mpg for the majority of driving with 10 miles or less per trip.

I had a base model for maybe 6 months. Not having cruise control is a huge pain in the butt. HUGE! Literally, too. The Insight's seats are terrible--I have never had a car cut the circulation off to my legs so badly every single day. And I think a lot of that had to do with the fact that I could never rest my legs due to not having cruise control.

You can add all of these, but you won't get that money back when it comes time to resell. I bet you base models are harder to sell/trade-in.
