Import Gen2 from Japan to New Zealand

Hey all,

I'm dreaming of importing an 2nd Gen Insight from Japan to New Zealand and there seems to be a distinct lack of English information about Japanese models.

If anyone has experience in the matter, or answers to any of my questions below I'd be grateful.


- If I get a model with the touch screen LCD will it be stuck in Japanese (like 2001 Nissan Primera Wagons), or does it have a full English option?

- As above, can the inbuilt GPS system update its maps/add NZ maps?

- Will the 2009-11 models comply with the new NZ emission standards coming out next year?

- Is there a reason there are so few in NZ, especially imported models?

Very keen on importing one, but wondering if there is an obvious reason they are so rare here - would that mean it would have good re-sale value, or no one wants them?

I am confused by what you are asking. By definition, all Insights are imported from Japan as they are only made in Japan. I had to wait 4 months to receive mine because of the earthquake. If you order one from your local Honda dealer they will build it in Japan and ship it to you. It will be a model spec'd to your country's requirements.

Sorry, should have specified I'm looking at importing a second hand Insight from a Used Car Auction in Japan, not a brand new one.
This is what car dealers do, I'm trying to cut them out of the equation

I don't know much about your part of the world, but wouldn't it make more sense to try to locate a used one in Australia than one from Japan? Wouldn't it be closer to your specs? Wouldn't shipping be less?

Each country has different regulations like day time running lamps rear fog lamps speed alarms, etc.
