May I recommend that you pay your 8 year old to not wash your Insight?
OK, perhaps you don't value your rides as much as I do. I mean, sure, I have the beater Accord, beater Odyssey, etc. And I really don't give a damn about how either of them look.
But your Insight is basically new to a degree, it hasn't been tortured to death by the elements yet, etc.
Pretty much, beginning today can be a journey to keeping it as pristine as long as you can.
You could
teach the 8 year old how to properly wash the car, maybe once you've sorted out how to do it yourself (maybe you do). It all begins with using the right sponges, drying towels, etc.
And you're probably good to go for a good claying of the car to remove embedded particles of crap in the clear coat ... which will move around and slice up the clear if you wash it, rub around on it, etc.
A big tip on the claying, especially since your Insight is black, don't rub clay on the surface without always making sure the surface is lubricated. Constantly spray where you're using it. Overkill is better than just enough.
I admit it, I power wash my Insight and under in the winter. I need to get off all of the damn salt off it. But early spring through late fall it only gets attention by hand.
Anyway ... you have plenty of time to look up all of this stuff. I have a thread here on the forums about my original first few experiences. Jayemtee also has a nice thread where I learned from him.
You don't have to use Zaino. You can use whatever you darn well please. But the basics don't change and it's all about
prep.
When I'm done I toss towels on my hood and watch them slide off like my Insight is throwing them back at me. People have almost driven into it on more than one occasion while gawking, too. Which isn't good, but, hey.
