Well done! Now you need to read up about Zaino and prepare for spring detailing.

Congrats on you Insight. Just remember one thing, a black vehicle looks awesome when washed and polished but shows every dirt spot and scratch.

My Dodge Ram was my first and last black vehicle I will ever own.

Even more important to keep it Zaino'd. Repels dust and keeps crap from accumulating nearly as fast.

That's what I've heard. I have to look into that. I think I do apply that or wax, I'll wait until spring;until the new paint from my accident has cured. In the past I applied turtle wax every 6-9 months. When I no longer see the water beading from the rain, I applied a new coat of wax.

One thing that has heiped significantly with keeping my Insight clean was the addition of Honda Splash Guards.

Yeah, I said the same thing about my Toyota Matrix a few years back At least the door panels aren't nearly as expansive on the Insight.

Thanks, I'll look into Zaino...I also plan to let my 8 year old earn some spending money in exchange for some car washing

I suspect your kid is going to make lots of money keeping your black vehicle clean and polished. It's the dust and pollen that shows up most. Consider getting the splash guards to cut down on the mainteinence. Besides, I think they make the Insight looks better.

May I recommend that you pay your 8 year old to not wash your Insight?

OK, perhaps you don't value your rides as much as I do. I mean, sure, I have the beater Accord, beater Odyssey, etc. And I really don't give a damn about how either of them look.

But your Insight is basically new to a degree, it hasn't been tortured to death by the elements yet, etc.

Pretty much, beginning today can be a journey to keeping it as pristine as long as you can.

You could teach the 8 year old how to properly wash the car, maybe once you've sorted out how to do it yourself (maybe you do). It all begins with using the right sponges, drying towels, etc.

And you're probably good to go for a good claying of the car to remove embedded particles of crap in the clear coat ... which will move around and slice up the clear if you wash it, rub around on it, etc.

A big tip on the claying, especially since your Insight is black, don't rub clay on the surface without always making sure the surface is lubricated. Constantly spray where you're using it. Overkill is better than just enough.

I admit it, I power wash my Insight and under in the winter. I need to get off all of the damn salt off it. But early spring through late fall it only gets attention by hand.

Anyway ... you have plenty of time to look up all of this stuff. I have a thread here on the forums about my original first few experiences. Jayemtee also has a nice thread where I learned from him.

You don't have to use Zaino. You can use whatever you darn well please. But the basics don't change and it's all about prep.

When I'm done I toss towels on my hood and watch them slide off like my Insight is throwing them back at me. People have almost driven into it on more than one occasion while gawking, too. Which isn't good, but, hey.

OK, here's our resident Zaino guru thread.

Here's my attempt at mimicking it.

Wow, you're serious about a clean car Zwolfe! Thanks for sharing the info.

Firsthonda, good idea on the splash guards.
